If you are a CEO at your existing employer (number 1 option in the NBA on a playoff team), how eager are you going to be to take a reduced role at another company (number 2 option with the Rockets) unless there is something in it for you? The only incentive for him is winning a championship, but based on the organizations he was willing to be traded to (Clippers, Nets, Knicks, Miami), on the surface that doesn’t exactly seem like a top priority for him at the moment. However, Melo has to show he can play his role effectively on a contender and make a positive contribution if he wants to be viewed favorably around the league. That means staying in his lane all season and being a good soldier. If he b****es about coming off the bench or his shot attempts, he’s going to finish his career as a chucker on bad teams, providing guidance to younger players. Melo has much more to lose by not sacrificing his game for the betterment of the team than Butler does, so he’s far more likely to make the necessary sacrifices. That said, it’s entirely possible that Butler is willing to sacrifice for a championship and, conversely, that Melo’s stubbornness prevents him from being effective as a Rocket.
You are right, my apologies. CP3 has never been one to take a lot of shots in his career. He’s a very efficient scorer. My concern is mainly how Butler will get his 15-16 shots in the flow of the offense.
Funny. What was meant by the comment is that Butler is not a catch and shoot player like Gordon. He typically creates his own offense off the dribble.
The one aspect that I think many have overlooked is that Butler is a very good passer. He's averaged almost 5 assist since he's been a star. The fact that he can create his own offense and create for others is only a good thing. He is not a ball stopper like Tmac was. He doesn't dribble the air out of the ball.
The guy is old, he wasn't even in the NBA a few years ago, was stuck overseas for most of his prime. No one on here has brought it up, but the guy comes off as a real jerk. Anytime he is quoted about his shoe obsession he responds like Westbrook would.
Butler wouldn’t be a 3 & D player only. The Rockets wouldn’t want him in that role only. He is elite at drawing contact and going to the line. He is good at creating for others. He would be replacing Eric Gordon’s role more so than Tucker’s.
Morey should've paid Ariza 15M so now he could've traded him to Minnie instead of Tucker, what an horrible gm...
When will these amateurs learn not to be so anxious and attach timeframes to when a deal will get done?? They’re so many variables to a deal. Now these guys look dumb ( like Burt Steel and Potato Head) b/c they wanted to beat out the likes of Shams and Woj so bad. Drop some intel and ride the wave guys. This “a deal will be done by midnight” is pure comedy and an weak attempt for attention.
Yep. It's "Potato Head the 2nd" btw, or Melon Head like hp suggested...even though to me ScoopB reminds me more of an aubergine... Spoiler ok, sorry for the dumbness.
Exactly, I am not saying we won't be a 3pt shooting team but we played that way based on the players we had. CP3 is a great example. If you have someone like that you get the hell out of their way. Ariza was a nice defender but not a creator. There is no way we would take away Butler's assets when they are the benefit to the deal if this actually happens. It makes our unique one size fits all offense work even better. It is an iso & PNR offense that is easily adaptable based on talent. More opps for Butler would mean less pressure on CP3/Harden and much, much harder to defend. Having more creators only makes things better. Knight would fill Gordon's role to a lesser degree with the increase from Butler and perhaps Teague if that is part of the deal. We need to get to 8 ~30 minute players and with Harden, CP3, Butler, Tucker, Capela, Melo, Knight, Ennis we could devastate and that is not counting who we pick up with the MLE. I know I am neglecting GG, Chriss, and what he might be able to contribute backing up Capela. Maybe we get a Tyson Chandler bought out with the min in addition to a bigger acquisition with the MLE at wing. With no one having cap room that is the most valuable asset left to anyone outside of trade. In the Tuckwagon lineup you would have Melo on Donkey with Tuck on KD, Butler on Klay, and CP3 on Steph with Harden on Iggy. With Boogie we would have Capela in the lineup and use him to go at Boogie. They lose Boogie next year and we often forget that while this our 1st year in the tax they are in repeater tax next year. I don't think they keep that lineup together. The best trade I think we could do is in two trades with Gordon, Knight, Nene, and picks for Butler, Teague, Jones and Sac taking Dieng for one of Shump/Koufos/Randolph. We should do as much as we can in the trade to avoid cleanup later without picks. This trade would seal the team except for buyouts. The only addition in future years would be replenishing bench with mins. We have to remember that Melo got paid this year and won't next year. Probably will require BAE or TP MLE to keep him so we need to use our TP MLE this year wisely and likely multiyear or we only have the ability for Non-Bird 120%.
