Not trying to lecture, and I'm sorry if I caused offense. I didn't mean any. I also feel like I tried to explain a couple of times, but I'm failing to communicate. I'm going to try one more time.

As to what she's protesting, I don't think it's important. She cites the NFL protests and police brutality. You probably don't agree with her, and I'm sure you think it is counterproductive for her and for the 'black community' to be protesting like this instead of working to succeed within the system (but I don't want to put words in your mouth). Maybe it is counterproductive and unhelpful in the end. All I'm trying to point out is this, that by suing to protect her rights she is 'achieving' (to use your word), because we've built this country for people to be able to do such things. From reading the dumb quotes from Paxton's court filing, I am pretty confident she's going to win. And if she does win, they'll have to strike this law from the books in Texas and many other states. I'd say that's pretty good success for an 18 year old. I've never managed to force a change in law.

Its like you're saying that since she can protest it doesn't what her purpose is

On schools requiring the pledge, schools try to teach citizenship.

They also teach kids the value of voting for instance

Part of citizenship is respecting American values.

“One Nation under God” — American values?

There are better ways to teach “American” values than requiring a pledge of allegiance from children.

God in rhe pledge is debatable

Saying a pledgw to the country that provides that education and the host of other things it provides like freedom for ideas to exchange isn't as much imo

We are citizens but ill meet you half way say there could be better ways

I missed the post where somebody in this thread compared standing for the pledge to slavery. Can you direct me to it?

I seem to recall a recent thread where he argued pretty vehemently that he was indeed the same poster as before.

Of course it is. There is no good argument for forcing children to pledge allegiance to anything. That’s not what a school is for. Demanding they pledge allegiance while also extolling the virtues of freedom of ideas really makes no sense to me.

I’m all for instilling a sense of civic pride/responsibility in young people. Do it in a way that actually probes their minds and sense of moral values, not with pledges and anthems and symbols.
