You are correct: KCP can't be traded until Dec 15th.

To clarify on Consent: Since he is on a 1yr contract, and will gain Bird Rights at the end of the year, he needs to provide consent. He needs to provide consent because he loses the Bird Rights, if traded. (That's a condition of signing 1yr contracts leading into 2nd or 3rd consecutive yr with signing team.).

He also has a 15% Trade Kicker. Maybe he'll give Consent in order to get the Trade Kicker, and consider losing Bird Rights less important (especially if he believes Lakers won't resign him again, anyhow?? to open up max cap room?).

[edit] n/m just saw @craguin's post answering the question.

We might think that but maybe Morey is going to ask D'Antoni to bring back that mid range game ;)

You conveniently omit that the guy we'd be bringing in is an elite defender. Can you imagine Steph Curry trying to get anything accomplished while being hounded by Butler and CP3, two of the best perimeter defenders in the entire league?

Sure, keep PJ if you can, but not if it means passing on Butler. This forum is maddening sometimes. Pretty much every take I have seen on the front page insists on getting sentimental about keeping fan-favorite role players and gets my blood absolutely BOILING.

CP hits 50% of his middies tho, Butler can't hit 40%.

Jimmy Butler can be CP3's of this upcoming season. PJ had a whale of a series against Goldy, so did Nene 2 seasons ago. Jimmy is only available because Minny is dysfunctional. And I don't think Jimmy is going back ever again and we may not have to pay that deep of a price. I bank on D'Antoni making him a superstar again. Go for it now before pregnant Harden needs to sit games because he is laboring.

The Dec 15 deadline doesn't apply to KCP. He essentially has 2 trade restrictions - a contract signing restriction that expires on Dec 15 and also a one-year bird restriction that is in effect for the rest of the season. He would have to consent to any trade.

    Best case scenario

Thibs trades Butler to the Rockets

Around November, T-Wolves fire Thibs and Rockets hire Thibs as their defensive coach :D

If Jimmy Butler is in any way open to signing long term with Houston, and you can get him for Gordon, Tucker, and a 1st, you don't even think about that trade.

This is a 20+ ppg, 5+rpg, 4-6 apg guy for 4 straight years. Most importantly, he plays GREAT defense.

It'd be up to DM to fill the holes at that point.

Tucker is definitely important to this squad, but I guess you can legit role with Melo, Ennis, Chriss, filler at PF until DM can upgrade it further with the next Tucker.

    Yeah I will.

The Rockets were an injury to Chris Paul away from beating the Warriors.

If you add a top 15 player that defends and scores like Butler, I will be in even better shape than last year.

Best plan is to do this trade in December or in the deadline . We have Chriss and knight build up value .... and then trade them along with picks / Qi / hartenstein for butler .

That way we don't lose Gordon or tucker .

Alternatively you do the trade earlier with Gordon / tuck and bank on Chriss and knight being able to somewhat fill in for those guys .

Maybe they will. I think Gordon and Tucker is fair and competitive compensation for a team looking to offload Butler. But it might not be the right sort of package for Minn because they have the same problem Butler has -- they are win-now players and Minn is a win-later team. But we can only trade from what we have. If Minn likes someone else's package (hehe) better, then of well. But, it's a credible argument that they should want some veterans to help them stay playoff-bound so KAT and Wiggins can continue to pick up playoff experience.

If they want to go young, Chriss might be a better sweetener than Tucker for them. And, a three-team deal is always a possibility. Something can be engineered where we get Butler, some playoff team picks up Gordon and Tucker to improve their depth, and Minn gets another high potential flyer or two.

Is this from the playoffs last season? I thought Jimmy B was in LA meeting Thibs. Why are there Wolves posters on the walls?

For us to get butler we're gonna need some luck. A lot of other teams can offer better packages .

Furthermore , the packages that we can offer that MIN might be interested in are a pretty big shakeup and carry risk for us . We all know Morey is not risk-averse , but this is still the best team we've ever had ... so there might be hesitation to break it up . Granted, we already have made lots of changes this offseason .
