With Altuve Playing they are 71-37 which is on pace for winning 107 games. When he doesn't play they are 8-13. For Correa they are 52-34 with him and 27-16 without him. For Springer they are 68-44 with him and 11-6 without him. I don't know if this means anything, but I think its good to have Altuve back. He probably won't get 200 hits, but it would be cool if he could. It would be 60 hits in 30 games.
Those particular numbers don’t really mean anything. Sample size is incredibly small. I think we were under .500 when Correa was out last year. But then you have to look at the schedule, time of year, pitching matchups, who else was out, etc, etc. Bottomline is you’d rather have all those guys than not. Obviously. But yeah, Altuve is a good baseball player.
It's always good to have Altuve playing. I suspect we can find a 21 game stretch where he has played and they have done poorly. Look no further than last August.
There was something wrong with Altuve before he went to the DL. He was hitting, but he didn't have the power of homers and speed of stolen bases. His stolen bases this year is going to hit a career low besides his rookie year. He got cured with rest and reflection. When Altuve got hit with a fastball to his elbow with no padding, he could of sit some more games, but he stayed in the game and rock some more.
The best Marvel movie scene of all time mimics Altuve’s return perfectly. With the Stros wiltering their division lead to the A’s, Altuve returns.
Not that Altuve isn't awesome and the team leader, but we were still holding on without him until Springer went down to complete the triple crown, then s**t really went south. We can survive any injury, but collectively it was just too much to absorb for any team.
We aren't as good without the league MVP. I'm shocked. That is is exponentially worse without our star CF & star SS is even less surprising.
He might get his 200 hits or he might at least win a batting title. He has been getting close to 2 hits a game since coming back.
To Altuve or or Not To Altuve. Seems like a paradox. If you decide to Altuve, do you have 4 tus, 1 tu, or 2 tu's, leaving you with a tutu.
I would love to see the Astros run differential numbers between Altuve in the lineup vs. Altuve out of the lineup. To me it's crazy that we were scuffling to produce any sort of run support for our starters while he was on the DL. Now that he's back (with the addition of Correa and Springer of course) out squad is back to averaging near double digit runs. Amazing how one little spark plug can change the entire dynamic of a team. Not to take anything away from the other two stars that returned.
