Zach Lowe mentioned this earlier this summer If they miss out on the big stars, the Rockets might approach Eric Gordon for extension talks once they are allowed to do so in July, sources say. http://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/...review-lebron-james-paul-george-kawhi-leonard Will be interesting to see if they do indeed do that. Might be worth it to them to lock him up for a few more years at a team friendly price.
They've been talking, add the speculation, for a while supposedly. Doesn't hurt them to keep the team together. RUN IT BACK.
I don’t see why unless he’s willing to resign for a very reasonable deal (which would be IMO, the same one he signed with us originally). Gordon has had major health issues over his career, locking him up on a large extension could be a mistake. He will also be 31 when he expires on his current deal, meaning he could be cheaper to retain then over extending him now.
Still carries the baggage of missing over 30% of his games. Sounds like the type that might get a BIG offer from a desperate team for 2 years.
They have to extend him bc they won’t have the cap space to resign him next offseason, correct? Maybe extending him would also make him more attractive to the timberwolves and eventually lead to a Jimmy trade?
They will have his bird rights if they don't extend him so cap space isn't an issue. But you are right that extending him would make him more attractive in trades. That is clearly part of DM's goal.
I say a 2 year 28.5 million extension, with reshaping his current contract to make it declining over the next 4 seasons, with a partial guarantee for his 4th year.
