Considering where we were picking at I’m pretty happy with what we got... if he can be what his potential says he can be I love the idea of a Pat Bev/Marcus Smart type player on this roster.
Morey did this for the sole purpose annoying the hell out Curry. Throw Melton in there for 3-5 minutes and tell him to just hound Curry everywhere on the court meanwhile Harden and Paul take turns putting Curry on skates on defense.
So we took a 6’3” guard that shot 28% on 3-pointers that isn’t great at finishing baskets and passed on an athletic 6’10” rebounder/shot blocker in Chemize that improved his offense every year and averaged 18 ppg? Our offense is based on 3 point shooting. Defensively we lack height and interior defense with the exception of Capela who might leave as a FA. Wow, Morey is such a genius with his analytics!
He's not nearly the shooter Beverley is And he's not nearly the size Smart is Hopefully he can find a shot, but I don't have any expectations of seeing him become a rotation player.
Give him time. Obviously he needs time in the G league but in a couple of years he will be solid back. Plus Paul can mentor him
If I can put on my Chauncey Billups player comparison hat on. Ughh ya Jay.... he reminds me of Anthony Mason. Name sounds the same. And both don’t have range. Good defender.
PatBev was not the shooter he is today in his first 2-3 seasons. He was able to develop it. PJ Tucker falls into that same category as well. I think Melton has that chance to develop it. I'm not really comparing Melton to either but if he can get his shot to about 30%-35% range he will be serviceable, especially for his defensive abilities.
