The first voting update is here. Figured it makes sense to create a thread dedicated to the voting updates leading up to the All-Star game.
Fans are pretty on the ball with the voting in the AL so far. Catcher is weak AF right now. If Stassi gets more AB's he may be deserve to go as a reserve.
Why would you take this stretch in particular and worry that’s his norm? What about when he was the best player in baseball pre injury last season? I think he trends way more in that direction.
Leading AL vote-getters... Betts - 748,872 Altuve - 701,236 Trout - 639,822 Judge - 541,983 Somewhat surprised Jose is so high and Judge so low.
Heavy competition in the OF, not so much at 2B. Altuve is a bonafide star now, so it's not that weird.
Has cooled down a bit since his hot start, but still a great player overall. Unfortunately, especially for his stats, he has gotten hosed by the umpires, especially a few minutes ago. He deserves to be a backup, possibly. Sanchez should not start, horrible average and atrocious defense. This proves that the All Star voting is a complete joke.
It happens all the time. Guys who are/should be part time players play really well and then they get more playing time and they regress. See: Jake, Marwin, Stassi, etc....Kemp will be soon. Dear god Gattis just crushed that ball.
The best full-time catcher in the AL has not produced more than the best part-time catcher in the AL. Granted, I'm not sure who has been the best full-time catcher. Zunino? Perez? Sanchez?
Oh I get ya, I just don't think he's a 130 game catcher. He and Stubbs would make a potentially interesting platoon next year.
Altuve takes over MLB lead in Votes Jose - 1,572,101 Betts - 1,568,417 Trout - 1,323,292 Martinez - 1,119,263 Judge - 1,061,370 Doubtful any Astro has led his league, much less MLB. Freeman leads the NL with 1,433,140
That's a nice jump for Yuli. He has a really good shot at being the backup 1B on the team. Jose is absolutely killing it and barring some sort of upset will end up as the leading vote-getter in the AL and possibly the entire MLB. Springer has a decent chance to make it as a reserve OF. Correa has some stiff competition for a backup SS spot but he might very well sneak in if he goes on a solid tear over the next week or so. Bregman might have a chance as a reserve 3B as well if he can put together a solid week and get his average to .270. JV and Cole should be guarantees to represent the team on the pitching side of things.
Wow I don’t think I realized how bad the state of 1B was in the AL...there’s absolutely no one good. Aside from the obvious Altuve, JV and Cole, I’d bet on Springer making it as well. I actually think Bregman may have a better shot than Correa given there isn’t much competition at 3B (Chapman isn’t making it IMO) but regardless I’d bet on one of them making it even if it means Correa playing 3B. Catcher is going to be interesting as well especially with Gary Sanchez going down. I guess Yan Gomes will back up Ramos? Crazy how bad the options are for 1B and C...can’t remember the last time the AL had two black holes (in terms of all stars) in the lineup.
