It's funny because if the rockets had just won one more half this playoffs this wouldn't even be a discussion.

Chris already took a pay cut last year.

    We owe him

If you thought he was going to take a pay cut you were not paying attention.

The Warriors don’t have 4 Supemax guys, they have 2 (Curry/Durant). The Rockets would have 3 with Harden, Paul, LeBron.

To have the full possible max, a player had to qualify for the designated player extension.
You can be a “max” player by getting the highest possible raise (120% of previous contract) and not be a supermax player

He is worth max for three more years. Is he the best player on the team? No but he is the vocal leader and plays well with harden.

I say give him the max

With CP3, you maximize the championship opportunity during Harden’s MVP prime. Depending on how the offseason shakes out, we’d have a 2, potentially 3, year window where we’d be favorites to make it to the WCF. If year 4 & 5 are ugly, years 1-3 will make up for it. The 1 thing you DON’T want to do is attach any 2020+ picks to trades - by 2022, the roster could end up looking like the Nets after everybody peaked, but at least we’d still have the picks.

People thinking that we’d be competitive in the FA market (PG13) w/out CP3 are fooling themselves.

A paycut will only save luxury tax bill

his cap hold is 35 million. There is no point in a paycut for him for cap manipulation management

They should give him a flat, or even declining max if we can.

No its because paul taking a cut has no influence on lebron acquisition. Pauls cap hold is 35 million so when manipulating your cap space you go over with the bird rights for paul anyway and there is no savings to be had. Pauls salary is just luxury tax burden total.

Paul won the Rockets two games against GSW.

What’s the point of playing for a ship if he ain’t back?

Harden has 3 or 4 prime years of top level play. Let him ride it out with CP3.

He will be worth a max for 2-3 years and May have some Kidd-sequel late career heroics in him. Point God will be a Rocket

Max him out. Nobody out there we can get to pair with Harden that is realistically better.

Hell they gave Ryan “Brick” Anderson $80 million to do nothing.
