Rockets have 53 wins currently so here's our magic number against teams in the hunt (with 15 games to play): Clippers: 1 game seals it Jazz ELIMINATED from the Rockets discussions Nuggets ELIMINATED from the Rockets discussions Lakers ELIMINATED from the Rockets discussions Spurs ELIMINATED from the Rockets discussions To get the first seed over the Warriors, the magic number is: Warriors 82 - 53 - 16 = 13 Against the third seed Portland Trailblazers: 82 + 1 - 53 - 26 = 4 with 15 games left. Against the East leading Raptors: 82 + 1 - 53 - 17 = 13

Im really bad with numbers, but what is a magic number? ie "12" being our magic number for #1 seed means we need 12 more wins?
Number of wins needed to get #1 spot. This number can go down if gs loses too. In other words, if we win 12 of our last 14 games we get first seed even if GS wins out.
Magic Number is the combination of wins by the Rockets and losses by the other team needed to clinch that spot. So a magic number of 12 to clinch the 1st seed means that the Rockets could win 6 games and Warriors lose 6 games (6+6 = 12). Or the Rockets could win 8 games and the Warriors lose 4 (8+4 = 12)
Combination of Rockets wins and Warriors losses. Throw in Raptors losses too if we're talking best overall record in the NBA.
Warriors not worried about #1 seed. They're worried about Curry and with good reason. We just need to stay healthy.
Rockets have 56 wins currently so here's our magic number against teams in the hunt (with 12 games to play): Thunder: ELIMINATED from the Rockets discussions Timberpups: ELIMINATED from the Rockets discussions Pelicans: ELIMINATED from the Rockets discussions Clippers: ELIMINATED from the Rockets discussions Jazz ELIMINATED from the Rockets discussions Nuggets ELIMINATED from the Rockets discussions Lakers ELIMINATED from the Rockets discussions Spurs ELIMINATED from the Rockets discussions To get the first seed over the Warriors, the magic number is: Warriors 82 - 56 - 18 = 8 Against the third seed Portland Trailblazers: 82 + 1 - 56 - 26 = 1 (with 12 games left) Against the East leading Raptors: 82 + 1 - 56 - 18 = 9 Only four teams in the NBA can catch up to us: Toronto, Boston, Golden State & Portland ... but that could change to three teams by midnight... Geaux Rox! Also, just a tidbit about James Harden: Anthony Davis is 2nd in scoring. If Harden continues to score 31.0 ppg, Davis would need to average 47.5 ppg over the last 12 games of the season to catch him. If James played in every game and averaged 12 ppg for the rest of the season, he'd still win the scoring title if Anthony Davis' average points per game stayed the same. James Harden has now won 56 games twice with the Rockets. As good as those Oklahoma City Thunder teams were, they never won 56 games and they never boasted an .800 winning average.
Our magic number is 5 now with 9 to play... amazing season so far. Against Boston it’s 1. 5 wins guarantees home court advantage throughout the playoffs!
You are correct sir. 3 more wins gets the Rockets HCA throughout if both Toronto and GS run the table.
It's more like 6. The combination of Rockets wins and GS / Boston losses gets us home court. Hard to figure out with three teams.
Negative, the Rockets only need to win 3 more games in order to clinch HCA through the playoffs, its 1 against Boston
The magic number is 3. Here's how it's tallied: Vs GSW 82 -60 wins -19 losses = 3 This magic number means that any combination of wins by the Rockets or losses by Golden State that add up to three guarantee us homecourt in the West. VS. Toronto (They hold the tie breaker so it's 83 -60 wins -20 losses = 3 This magic number means that any combination of wins by the Rockets or losses by Toronto that add up to three guarantee us homecourt in the NBA Finals should we be lucky enough to make it there.
