Sam “2nd rounders” Hinkle did a lot more than just tank. He managed to get a lot of value out of things that didn’t appear to have much value at all. Not only that, he wanted porzingis and got overruled. We can just imagine what the core of Simmons/porzingis/embiid could have been. I don’t really blame him for okafor.
It's also his other moves that really set up the franchise for success. https://www.basketball-reference.com/executives/hinkisa99x.html Key Moves For Future Assets in just his 3 years of employment: Drafted MCW 11th and then sold high -> for Lakers unprotected 2018 Pick (which if lands between 2 and 5, is going to Boston as a part of Colangelo's Tatum for Fultz Trade) Jrue Holiday -> for Noele + 2014 First Round Pick (Elfred Payton) -> Traded Elfred for Dario Saric + the Orlando's 2017 First Round Pick (see below) Thaddeus Young -> Cavs 2016 1st round pick (Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot Drafted by Colangelo 24th) Cenk Akyon -> Thunders 2016 1st round pick (Furkan Korkmaz Drafted by Colangelo 26th) Took on Salary from Sacramental to swap Orlando's 2017 first round (basically got Tatum for Fox) + Sac's unprotected 2019 First Round Pick (which will now go to Boston if Lakers unprotected does not land between 2 and 5..... all part of the Fultz for Tatum Trade). Signed Covington and T.J. McDonnell. Also did small deals for 2nd round picks (they still have 7 more incoming in the next 3 years from other teams https://basketball.realgm.com/nba/draft/future_drafts/detailed) To say he loaded the cupboard for them is a major understatement. Most people were saying there's no way Colangelo could've screwed it up..... Fultz better get his shot back and be awesome.
TLDR of what I posted above He also acquired Saric, Tatum, Lakers 2018 Un-protected, Sac's 2019 Unprotected, 2x 2016 late first rounds for Thaddeus Young, Jrue Holiday, MCW and Cap Space
The 2019 SACRAMENTO pick goes to boston if the Lakers pick doesn't convey? I thought it was the 76ers 2019 pick. Holy **** that trade is an absolute disaster unless Fultz becomes perennial All-NBA and Tatum and whoever boston takes/trades for with the Lakers/Kings pick never turns into anything. Coangelo took one draft to destroy what Hinkie took 3 years to build.
Slight error, the Sac pick is 1st pick protected.... still horrible...like it's actually amazing how much Hinkie built up, and sad how it was torn down. If Philadelphia conveys the L.A. Lakers' 2018 1st round pick to Boston, then Sacramento's 2019 1st round pick to Philadelphia; if Philadelphia does not convey the L.A. Lakers' 2018 1st round pick to Boston, then Boston will instead receive the more favorable of Philadelphia's 2019 1st round pick protected for selection 1 and Sacramento's 2019 1st round pick protected for selection 1 (via Philadelphia) and Philadelphia will receive the less favorable or the protected of these two picks [L.A. Lakers-Phoenix, 7/11/2012; Milwaukee-Philadelphia-Phoenix, 2/19/2015; Philadelphia-Sacramento, 7/9/2015; Boston-Philadelphia, 6/19/2017]; this pick conveyance is included in "2018 first round draft pick from L.A. Lakers" on Boston Incoming
No kidding. That would be a great hire by Jordan if he'd let Hinkie actually run the show (unlikely). The man did a great, if painful, job of rebuilding Philadelphia. Back luck, though, with terrific drafted players getting injured during the course of the enormous tank job. Just when they were looking like a young team ready to take off, he gets booted. Well, no one ever said the NBA was fair.
If Boston wins a championship anytime soon, they should build statues of Jerry CoAngelo and Billy King.
He didn't just draft well... (ok last repost I swear), it's just like when people thought we got James Harden because Presti messed up and not because all the small moves Morey made beforehand.. He also acquired Dario Saric, Jayson Tatum, Lakers 2018 Un-protected, Sac's 2019 Unprotected, 2x 2016 late first rounds for Thaddeus Young, Jrue Holiday, MCW and Cap Space. (also got Noel which he might've not mis-managed) He also got like 6+ future 2nd rounders. Wouldn't mind him coming back to help Morey again.
Hinkie did everything he could to avoid mediocrity, only to be ousted and replaced by a guy who will lead the 76ers to never ending 8-4 seeds for five to 6 years before he dumps everything when all of Hinkie's players leave.
Michael Jordan is a bad owner. Not the worst but definitely not executing moves to put his team in a place to contend. Watch Kupchak trade Kemba Walker for pennies on the dollar.
The Charlotte Hornets are not a true professional franchise & I am glad Gersson Rosas will not be going there or retiring there.
Yeah, you could see that coming. Jordan wanted Kupcheck all the way. Rosas name just got thrown out there to give the media "the impression" Jordan was looking around when he really wasn't. Good for Rockets though.
People ******** on Kupchak event tho Buss JR was the driving force in Lakers demise, he (Mitch) obviously was at blame tho, still, he has done loads of good prior that, so clearly not the worst hire, we'll have to wait on see how it goes.
Are you high or what? He got them their entire core, in fact their new gm messed it up by trading a future pick to the Celtics for Fultz and trading away Noel and Okafor for nothing. Sixers only tanked for 4 years and got Noel, Okafor, Embiid, Saric and Simmons. Thats not something a "random person" can do. How many years have sacremento been tanking and how many stars do they have?
Noel and Okafor were bad picks. If you consider them as good player I don't what to say. Okafor isn't getting minutes on the nets, and noel is buried on a terrible mavs team. After Parker and Wiggins, Embiid was clearly the third best player and if he was healthy he would have been the no 1 pick in his draft class. It remains to be seen if he can stay healthy. Simmons was a no doubt no1 pick. I think he is by far the most important part to the puzzle. I will give credit to hinke for saric. If you have 4 high lottery picks and you hit 50% of them I am not hailing him as a genius gm. I think if sactown had gotten Simmons and held on to cousins they might be able to make the 8th seed.
