In FY2016, 20,455 unaccompanied illegal minors were caught sneaking into the United States. 20,455. Think about that.
Isn’t that like a 20 year low or something? Plus, showing how ignorant trump fans are of the facts, I saw earlier that just in December alone, around 28,000 people were detained at our ports of entry. However the total for the year was something like 100,000 less than fy2016. Meaning even the hot spots for crossing illegally are substantially down. However the man power and the barriers aren’t needed along the 2,000 miles of land that don’t already have fencing... it’s at our ports of entry where we are severally under staffed and working with old technology. It’s just hard to take seriously all these alt right hard liners when they just don’t understand basic facts about illegal immigration in this country. They don’t understand why DACA is so important. Because VISA reform will be where you start clamping down on illegal immigration (good majority of illegal immigrants overstay VISAs) and there will be no way to reform and implement a working visa program if the US government shows a lack of trust from their actions with DACA participants that trusted the government only for it to backfire a couple years later. Or maybe it’s that Trumps alt right fans actually want a chaotic immigration policy. Maybe they do think that stupid policy will lead to excuses to militarize our deportation force and make America white again. Maybe they think “chaos is ladder” that the white man can use to climb their way back up to the top.
I said "unaccompanied minors". Apparently liberals have problems with reading comprehension in addition to hating America.
Paul Ryan, telling a DACA mother in January 2017 that he won't allow her to be deported and separated from her family. Says its the same thing then president-elect trump also believes. http://www.cnn.com/2017/01/12/politics/paul-ryan-cnn-town-hall-top-lines/index.html
Anyone who thinks Trump isn’t dead set on deporting dreamers are living in fantasy land. They are already laying the groundwork for the PR campaign by openly calling DACA recipients illegal immigrants and this disgusting racist commercial by Trump where he essentially calls Democrats murderers and shows images of scary brown people. Trump is going to start deporting Dreamers as soon as he can. This will be a major major stain on this country’s history and all the right wing sycophants we see here will gladly support the 2018 version of Andrew Jackson’s Trail of Tears. People should be freaking out way more than they are now and if McConnel breaks his promise for a DACA vote the Democrats that voted yes today are going to have to live with this on their conscience.
Ahhh, I see...and you have some conclusive evidence of your clairvoyance on this matter, or are we just supposed to blindly accept that you possess universal knowledge as some diety on this subject?
FakeNews I know. No its just my observation of the groundwork that is being laid to do what we all know they want to do. You'd have to be living on another (FoxNews type of) planet to not see the new ads being run (endorsed by Trump of course) misinforming the general public about immigration, and combining Dreamers with murderous illegal immigrants. Yeah... its speculative of course, but if you don't see the ground work being laid to smooth this over with the FoxNews crowd, yes.. you are living in fantasy land. ICE detained a little girl with cerebral palsy for crying out loud. You'd be crazy to think they wont go after Dreamers since they already have all of their identification on file ready to go.
As with most of trump's stories, the one about NYC terror suspect and chain migration is false... Donald Trump’s unsubstantiated claims about chain migration, NYC terror suspect http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-m...-trumps-unsubstantiated-claims-about-chain-m/
An proposal from The National Review that merits consideration... Trump Should Trade the Wall for Better Immigration Policy http://www.nationalreview.com/artic...5bb850fa&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter
Why not do both? A physical border will help with those not here, preventing over-stayers from getting jobs via e-verify and penalties for businesses that are caught hiring illegals would help encourage them to return to their own country. If both of those things were in place, it would seem like a good time to consider amnesty programs like DACA or whatever.
Correct, and in many places its impractical if not outright impossible. Then you have the environmental and community impact that building such a physical structure will have (not surprisingly, many people along the border oppose a physical wall). Seems better from economic and other reasons to look at the total arsenal of border security and use those with the highest success rate (including electronic surveillance and drones and increased patrolling). Unfortunately for trump and his supporters, the "wall" has become a hallmark of his presidency and a symbol of anti-immigration and thus they continue to waste money and time while playing a political game with immigration reform.
Trump campaigned on the idea that we wouldn’t have to pay for his wall, didn’t he? What percentage of Americans were in favor of spending billions on a border wall during the campaign?
Trump said that Mexican people was going to pay for his wall, now he is asking for us to pay it, and the people seem to be ok for this. This sucks.
I think this push on chain migration exacerbates the illegal immigration problem. And besides is the worst part about Trump's immigration agenda. But, if we are to do something to seriously mitigate illegal immigration -- e-verify, a big beautiful wall, ICE operations, whatever -- you want to pair it with policy that accommodates the market demand for those immigrants legally. US companies want to hire immigrants for their low-skill jobs. Immigrants want to come to the US to work them. Temporary work visas are one avenue, but obviously not sufficient because people are choosing illegal means to achieve their outcomes. Chain migration is another possible avenue that offers an attractive arrangement -- be sponsored by a citizen in the family and come work temporarily and keep your nose clean until you can be naturalized. Shut off that avenue and more people will resort to illegal immigration to achieve their goals. We should be widening the avenues for immigrants to come and fill this demand for workers, not shutting them. The businesses that resort to illegal hiring practices do so because they cannot compete in the market by following the law. If you manage to cut off the supply of illegal immigrants to them, and simultaneously choke the supply of legal immigrants, their costs will go up and they won't be able to compete with suppliers from other countries. Unless of course you bring out the tariff hammer for everything.
Idiots who didn't understand that a foreign nation couldn't be compelled to pay for something they don't want are now too stupid to realize they were the ones who would be paying all along.
To put it a step farther, Trump's centerpiece that apparently distinguished him from his rival, Hillary, the wall, will now eventually be what Hillary wanted in the first place more in her campaign: more outposts, sensors and drones. It's just god damn hilarous.
