I disagree. Weakness minimizes the damage of one’s stupidity. But, in this case, all it shows is the Democrats were willing to shutdown the government over a weekend to try to extract a concession on immigration. Whether the gambit worked or not depends on what unfolds over the next month. If the Republicans make good on their promise to pursue a bipartisan immigration solution in good faith, then it worked out. If not, then it didn’t work and the Republicans have demonstrated to the public that they can’t be trusted.
If, for their partial role in the shutdown (even though they control neither House nor Senate), Democrats are "complicit" in any murders committed by illegal aliens (? This is really a significant problem ?), then what does it mean each time we have semi-automatic fueled mass murder in the US from some mentally ill person? If we're using the logic that Two Scoops has endorsed, there are lots of "complicit" people, surely, right?
for NOT being a racist My president surely surrounds himself with and attracts many many many great misunderstood FINE people. again, not saying racists just people that believe white is a more supreme race. https://www.vox.com/identities/2018...ments-trump-appointees-carl-higbie-americorps
Where does trump find people that can look you in the face and lie, and do so in such an unlikable way... http://www.cnn.com/2018/01/22/polit...dfa22fa02199@livefyre.com&hubRefSrc=permalink
Not really. One in no way equates to the other Haha! Fair point, B-bob! Now, one could argue it, just as one could argue about it on the immigration side as well, but it is a fair point to bring up. Points out my biggest gripe in politics....the rampant hypocrisy.
Agree on Reagan's mistake, and how we are repeating it (we wouldn't have illegal immigrants if they couldn't get jobs or money to survive here). Disagree with the wall being a boondoggle. Oh, it may not solve the immigration problem...think of it more like a public works project. I do also think it would help control immigration. If it weren't so easy to come here illegally, not as many would do it. Is it worth the money? Now, THERE is the proper question to ask.
I don't think that entered into the Dems thinking at all. It did seem to be McConnell's frustration, however. FWIW, Trump hasn't said or done anything indicating he either doesn't want, or won't support, a solution for Dreamers (how does that name even apply, btw....these were infants when they came here, utterly incapable of even understanding where they were, much less 'dream' about it...that they were incapable of it is precisely WHY DACA was created). But there are two issues here....DACA, and immigration in general. Trump wants immigration set up to ensure the security of the U.S. He didn't think that was put on his desk did that. So, he rejected it. His stance on that has been pretty clear for quite some time. No duplicity there.
How long until pictures of Bannon, Flynn, Kushner, Tillerson, etc...start disappearing from official photographs?
[Premium Post and Rich Observation] The Dems caved like bishes! For what purpose was this 72 hour stunt undertaken? Nothing was gained! Meanwhile the Dem party is splintered and is suffering from internecine fighting over the abrupt reversal. Oh, and all my predictions about Obama weaponizing the FBI/DOJ to rig the election for HIllary, lie about Russian collusion to take down Trump, and then attempt to overturn the will of the American electorate are coming to light exactly as I stated. Obama will go down as the dirtiest, most dishonest politician in American, Kenyan, and Pockistanee history. GOOD DAY
No. The Democrat owned Deep State is the real murder here, comrade. But serially, this makes it look like Democrats don't stand for much. Though I don't think immigration status of a relatively small minority is worth shutting down the government. The shithole kerfluffle might've made Dem Leadership overplay their hand. McConnell gave them a visible out (in the weaseliest way), just like he did when he lied to Collins. But that doesn't change the narrative of them being spineless and weak willed. Let's see what they learn in three months. The way things are now, I don't think this amounts to much in terms of fallout. It would've been worse if the shutdown lasted longer.
There will be no deal on DACA. Trump will not let them stay. The Dems must realize this and that the Republicans will not put DACA to a vote as promised and even if they somehow do Trump will veto it. Dems hand is weak - they are right to not keep the gov't shut down. Wait until the Republican renege first.
So, did the Republicans cave "like bishes" in 2013 when they couldn't get Obamacare reversed during the 16 day shutdown?
Well, there is always a part of the public that neither side can get. I think Independents are more swayed by this kind of stuff, they didn't pull this gambit to win over people that froth at the mouth chanting "BUILD THAT WALL" at Trump rallies. If the GOP thinks it's going to be a good look to not work out DACA they are going to be in for a rude awakening. The media will publicize every deportation, especially those of good samaritans and good people, and not only will the GOP look like they reneged on a deal but will look like a rather heartless party as well.
Clearly, yes. Doing so earned them quite a bit of heat from their base at the time if you remember. They held out for 16 days assuming Democrats would cave, they didn't. The Republican base at the time supported a shutdown in an effort to stop Obamacare and that's why choosing to shut down the government didn't hurt them as much as caving and re-opening the government without any of their demands satisfied did. This time around the Democrats did the same thing, but they were catching heat for their decision to shut down the government even by their base so they caved after only 2 days. They didn't have the support of their base to shut down the government to advance immigration policies so the decision to shut down the government was hurting them more than caving will.
Here is one fact about the shutdown: Trump is a great mechanic - he can get anything to start working again.
