I wish I could help, I'll ask around.

But if you've never had a dog, you know this is a legit commitment right? Don't be a deadbeat owner.

Look into a whippet. Very similar to an italian greyhound. Theyre cousins I believe, but their temperament is very easy to get along with- very active if you take it outside and are active with them, very snuggle buddy if you more of a stay in the house type. You get the best of both worlds. Very smart, very athletic and very easy to maintain. I second not being a deadbeat owner. It seems easy enough to raise a puppy but theres a lot of time and patience that goes into it.

Look around for Whippet rescue shelters and maybe find one that way, theres nothing better than rescuing a dog, be it a Whippet or any other breed. They have a certain understanding that you saved their life and will be indebted and loyal to you forever. Also getting a dog thats a year or older can be great for new dog owners, as they are more calm and understanding.

Good advice so far. IGs are miniature greyhounds; whippets are an old mix btwn greyhounds and a terrier so more robust, less fragile.

But def take it seriously and study up on "sighthounds" -- very different type of dogs. The Mrs and I love them but we had some learning to do.

Be careful with greyhounds, if you're a runner. My best friend in HS literally ran one to death, jogging. Despite being fast, apparently they can't sustain for long distances. ONe of the most horrifying things ever.

I just want an Italian girlfriend- one of the crazy, screaming ones.

Yes thanks for the advice people. Interesting, i thought whippets were much bigger. The normal greyhound is too big. Definitely open to those as well now. These sighthounds really are just my type of dog.

It's a nice idea, but IGs and whippets don't race these days.

Understand what the OP is saying about full-sized greyhounds. We looked into it and even had one visit. But it was too huge for our small place.

OP, whippets are generally about knee-high, roughly 2x the size of an IG. IGs can be great, but they can be shivery, nervous and fragile in some cases. When they are robust, they are hilarious and amazing dogs though. Big personalities.

There are a bunch of rescue organizations -- I just don't know about TX orgs.

Can't state this enough. They're all cute and cuddly but if you're not putting in the time and responsibility, don't even bother looking.

Truth. We overbreed dogs. There is an overabundance of dogs that need adopted.

If there’s no luck in finding one in Italy, try Abyssinia.
