Im 42. I was diagnosed as type 2 diabetic 10 years ago and type 1 four years ago. The easiest and most significant elimination of sugar to make is sugary drinks. This includes even Minute Maid Fruit Drinks which have just as much sugar as soda Im writing this because im working in a high school and noticed they've gotten rid of soda machines in a health effort but still have a Minute Maid Fruit Drinks machine. This is the problem with healthcare in our country. Not money but ignorance.
If we took better care of ourselves the cost of healthcare would go down. On stuff like most orange juice, the sugar negatives outweigh vitamin benefits
I agree with you. The sugar consumption by the average American is absurdly high. The majority of people I see don't give a second thought to that bottle of monster or powerade they are about to slam down. They drink it like freaking water. It makes me physically ill thinking about it. No wonder why this nation has a epic obesity and diabetes problem .
The only reason I pay attention to my sugar consumption is I have diabetes. I was living a very unhealthy lifestyle before developing it but I was trying to eat better and exercise the years before that I would jog over 20 miles a week but I couldn't below a certain weight. The diabetes has made me realize I could only be so healthy given the amount of sugar I consumed. Even though I've had diabetes 10 years ive only recently learned sugar is brain food and we really don't need much at all and really all excess is basically toxic
I remember back in the 90’s that you could criticize someone for being fat - you know, unhealthy. Not so much nowadays.
I didn't know oatmeal was harmful to teeth until our dentist residents told me in a hangout thread. I'm still an anti dentite.
At home it's Diet Gold Peak tea and Powerade Zero. I realized a few short years ago the amount of sugar I was taking in by drinks and knew it wasn't a good path to be on. Both my dad and grandparents on both sides were diabetic and contributed to their early deaths. I've known for a good while the amount of sugar in fruit juices and avoid them like the plague. There are essentially no benefits to drinking them which goes completely against the narrative.
It’s American culture as a whole. It seems to go across all socioeconomic, racial, education, ethnic backgrounds. As a nation we love to eat tasty foods, even if it’s bad for us. We are willing to pay the increased healthcare cost and potentially die earlier.
Dying early would almost be a better outcome than what we have now which is a nation of unhealthy people.
I grew up with minutemaid, and I turned out fine. Just another attempt by you pansy liberty-less warriors trying take away MY FREEDOM just because you don't believe in God and hate proud warriors like Trump.
The issue is they add sugar to every processed food know to man now. You got to the grocery store and almost anything canned, in a bottle or in a package has high fructose corn syrup or some other form of added sugar. Every drink has added sugar. What makes matters worse is there are actual correlations between increased sugar consumption and decreased cogntive abilities. The most important lesson here is: COOK YOUR OWN DAMN MEALS. And I don't mean throwing a frozen dinner in a microwave.
Too many fat people in this country but they say it's Muh Genetics. Nope, it's your disgusting diet and sedentary lifestyle. A nation made of immigrants from all of the world. Go to Europe, Asia, or Africa and see the percentage of morbidly obese people. Americans didn't evolve genetically to become fat in 300 years.
There’s a reason the sugar industry fought so hard to prevent the % of sugar to be displayed compared to its “recommended daily allowance” (whatever the eff that means now a days) on any food item. You’ll see it for every other calorie (proteins and fats) and many vitamins and minerals, but never sugar...why do y’all think that is?
very true , glycemic index chart is your best guidance Edit to add this : https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Latent_autoimmune_diabetes_of_adults
I know what you mean. I remember back in the 90’s when you could criticize idiots that didn’t believe in science for being ignorant - you know, morons.
I was talking about his example. It has nothing to do with health care It had everything to do with the school and its apparent lack of knowledge about sugar Healthcare in America is by and large reactionary It is about taking care of you once you are sick We put no stock in preventative medicine. . . . . Less in nutritional education Rocket River
