"Howard is rejuvenated, but his post game isn't helping -- even when it looks good. Post-ups have accounted for 38 percent of Howard's possessions, the highest such figure since his first year in Houston, per Synergy Sports. Only four rotation guys -- LaMarcus Aldridge, Zach Randolph, Marc Gasol, and Joel Embiid -- average more post touches per possession, according to Second Spectrum Data. He's not productive enough to justify that volume. Howard is shooting 48 percent on post-ups, a solid number, but he is bleeding turnovers. He has coughed it on almost 25 percent of his post-ups, the sixth-highest mark among 85 rotation guys who have finished at least 20 such plays, per Synergy. (The five below him: Kelly Olynyk, Draymond Green, Dario Saric, DeAndre Jordan, and Ben Simmons.) He doesn't compensate with inside-out assists. Put it all together, and Howard post-ups are producing about 0.78 points per possession. You don't divert the offense this often for 0.78 points. You could argue Charlotte has no better option beyond Walker running pick-and-roll, but it's time to build one. Charlotte can still be a midtier playoff team with better health. It is really hard to see any pathway to something better." http://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/21771623/zach-lowe-10-things-like-including-chicago-bulls-nba Such a waste of Kemba Walker's talent, Batum too. Throw Dwight in the trash If you can't convince him to play his role and free Monk and Lamb already. Let the threes fly and play off the Kemba/Batum pick and roll. That team has some decent talent If they would just play to their strengths.
For comparisons sake, can anyone provide these kind of numbers for some of the elite post players of the past and also some of the current players? Sorry, I rarely look at stats so I'm not even sure where to go look.
He was practicing 3-pointers during the off-season to "add range to his game". "It's going to be fun." What happened Dwight?
There's no reason why he hasn't accepted that he is not the player he once was and why he is not playing to his strengths. Such an idiot. I don't like to judge, but Dwight is a disgrace to waste his talent like this. He's a detriment to the team on offense and being a little kid about it. It's been 5-6 years now, accept that you are a limited goofball and embrace the pick-and-roll!! I have no good words left for this clown, none. Him leaving was the best thing behind CP3 & Harden coming here.
There is limited data of this sort for past players. Synergy probably tracked it going about 10 years back. It's hard to know what sort of PPP post-up greats like Kareem, Hakeem, or prime Shaq put up. Here's the link for you to check out, if you're curious: http://stats.nba.com/players/playtype-post-up/ You can add filters to see the numbers for particular players, or check out the numbers for the past 3 years. Among players who've had at least 25 post up plays this year, the median PPP is 0.85: http://on.nba.com/2yEtYiB Last year, among players who had at least 75 post ups, the median PPP was around 0.87: http://on.nba.com/2yG0UqS Just to give you an idea.
Dwight admired bigs like Shaq and Hakeem. Instead, he should have admired bigs like Mutumbo and Russel. He's a player that never understood his playstyle. It's like NBA2k right? Choose a shotblocking rebounding center...but instead try to focus on being a post scorer...
He should admire bigs like DeAndre Jordon. He'd be a monster, the rich man's DJ, playing with a guy like Harden. People are saying that he has declined. True. But he has not declined to a point where he can't do what DJ is doing, and better.
The Dwight vs DJ comparison confirms a theory of mine: Knowing one's ability and limitations is often just as important as what those abilities and limits are. DJ knows what he can and cannot do and maximizes his strengths while minimizing his shortcomings. Dwight's egotistical insistence he is a legit post player has damaged his value on the court for years. Even though he's more talented than DJ, DJ is more effective. To apply this generally, a person of average intelligence that knows he/she is average is better off than a smart person that thinks and acts like he/she is a genius. I've seen some spectacular flameouts.
At this point y'all are just looking for reasons to pick on him because y'all are butt hurt that he wouldn't set a pick. Plenty of people in the league hurt their teams in specific ways. He wears a size medium (38) jersey. Leave him be.
Yeah, I just didn't mention him since tey play in the same era. I'm just saying that Dwight wishes he could be a Hakeem or Shaq when he should have just focused on being a Mutmbo like center that just focused on getting rebounds and blocks and helping the team run the offense and getting garbage buckets.
He probably is still stuck mentally in his glory days in Orlando, when he could do everything and was the main man. He's delusional.
We got to the WCF with him. Which was the best season we had in 20 years. He is an old player not what he once was. He was by far one of the most generous athletes in this city when he was here. What is the point of just ragging on him. In his prime he took a team to the finals. That is pretty good.
It's so funny because he STILL has the talent to be a top 5 C in the league, but his brain just won't allow him to accept a role and play hard. LEAVE BRITTANY ALONE!!!
