Best advantage of Paul's injury is everyone saw MVP performance again this year.

Rockets should win 60+ if health is decent.

    New franchise record

I am afraid the same narrative that gives Russ MVP last year emerges again on KP. The Ringer has a column today asking several NBA writers to give their votes on who is the MVP of this season by far. Out of 7, 3 voted for Harden, and 3 vote for KP, whose argument are all like "he single-handedly carried a team that would have been dead last without him to over 50% winning percentage.", "Harden has much better teammates etc".

KP's PER has plunged 4+ points since posting and Harden's has risen by 1. It's highly doubtful he even finishes ahead of James in that regard.

KP won't finish top 2 MVP voting this season.

I understand that. If you only count for stats and wins, Harden should win unanimously by far this season. However, the voters seem to be obsessed with some kind of narratives, which of course the media will have no problem creating for them.

The MVP award has been warped by the media to be interpreted as "which good player has the worst team"

Westbrook would NOT have won with a .500 record or without the Tri-Dub.

No 50-win Leastern Conference player is winning over 58-win, 27 PER Harden.

23 PER Irving with 60 wins is not winning over Harden.

Keep an eye out for Lebron. Monster season, no chance to win title, will chase stats for mvP to build his legacy.

the biggest threat is Giannis due to narrative and stats if the Bucks win around 50 games or maybe Lebron if the Cavs somehow won around 55 games after their slow start

Kyrie would be a joke of an MVP, and I don’t take him seriously as a viable candidate...there’s no way he’d win it with those numbers

a great narrative for Harden would be leading the league in scoring and assists for a 58-60 win team that is 2nd in the West...I think the only player to have led the league in ppg and apg was Archibald back in 72-73

I have to agree with you that the whining is annoying.

At the same time though, it’s somewhat understandable. I don’t like the “the league has it out for Houston” narrative. But, the NBA system for voting for awards and hall of fame is flawed.

There’s a lot of issues and fans can’t really “trust the process” so to speak. The criteria to select award winners does seem to shift from year to year and that’s discouraging to fans.

This isn’t baseball where it’s generally accepted the voters got it right. You can see how narratives and media influence shifts standards on NBA awards.

I think that should be the valid gripe.

Harden should have at least 1 MVP by this year’s end.

If Jose Altuve anjd Aaron Judge were going with NBA voters, then Judge would have won the award. MLB voters dont go with that narrative bullshit

As Houston Rockets fans we have the right to be upset if a player doesn't get the credit he deserves. Im a Fan of the team first, but im also a fan of every single player. When Pat Bev got his 1st team all-defense i was happy, too. Considering that 1 Rebound cost Harden one of the most important individual awards is just dumb as hell. Harden had the better season and he deserved the MVP, what's wrong with being upset.

(Btw, im not quoting you, because i disagree with you, but rather to add something to your statement)

Judge perhaps had better numbers, but Altuve's previous work likely played a role. He finished 3rd last year, and set the MLB record with Four consecutive 200-Hit seasons this year. Harden is like Altuve.

Giannis is like Judge, the new guy. Westbrook already had two Fourth Place finishes before last year. Giannis' only Top 10 was 7th, last season.

Everybody knows Harden lost two tough ones. Ninety% chance he wins this year.

Let's not forget Cappella. Had better numbers than Gasol tonight. More pts, rbs and blocks
