It seems like every year one team is scheduled to play another rival team multiple times within the same month. I never understood this notion. The point in playing a team multiple times throughout the year to to objectively find out who is the better team between them and positioning for playoffs. Why would the league allow one team to possibly benefit playing another three times within a months time. Now I am not saying Houston would have beaten the Grizz those first two games if they were more spread out or if Paul was on our team but it does beg the question since we play them coming up for a third time in the first 13 games of the season. For instance. Kawhi is out for SA to start the season. If they played Houston 3 times to start the season and lost all 3 due to that then that gives Houston the advantage for the season. If those games were spread out then you get a better chance of these teams being more true to who they are against each other by seasons end (or it at least evens out). Just my quick beef. I'm positive Houston will have a better record than Memphis to end the season so this becomes moot, but it would seem to make more sense to spread out the games more.
Apparently you missed the whole point of the post. It's not just about Memphis, it's about why the league has one team play another team three times in the first couple weeks of the season.
Actually 4...Rockets play them on Saturday and then again next Saturday. Grizzlies catch Rockets all 4 times without Chris Paul.
I just saw that as well. So we play them 4 times in 17 games and then nothing for the rest of the season. Who knows if Chris Paul would actually have made any difference but it would have been nice to see.
League clearly tried their absolute best to **** us over with the scheduling yet we're somehow 9-3 even without CP3. Cramming a ridiculous amount of games at the start of the season, playing way more on the road than at home, giving us a B2B after playing a finalist in the first game etc
NBA scheduling could always be better. My biggest beef is traveling 1,500 miles for a single game, then flying right back near where you just left. Let's just hope we're healthy for the playoffs.
first game was the worst officiated game of the year completely in MEM favor, refs love them some manboobs. 2nd meeting was on a b2b for us where EGO didn't play and chandler portions had his singular best game of the past 5 years. btw, according to pringles there's a good chance CP3 will be suited up for the final game w/ MEM
If they're gonna intentionally waste money/fuel like that -- then, lower ticket prices and donate more money to charity.
OP, imagine if you were tasked to create a schedule for 30 teams and try to make it is as fair as possible before the beginning of the season starts. You have timezones and amount of travel per game to also consider as part of the fairness. You have no idea who will have injuries for certain stretches of the season. GO !! Additionally, you have to consider the number of back to back games and the spacing between each back to back games as part of the algortihm
