This was purely for the RGV Vipers to get House's exclusive G-League rights as an NBA Affiliate Player (Rockets training camp cut). Same reason Rockets signed George de Paula.
I heard he will be splitting time between RGV and Golden Nugget. Tillman wants him to be a dealer at the high roller tables so that his high end guests will really be going up against the House
He'll probably get cut as soon as today. But he will NOT open up a (regular) roster spot. Rosters go down to 15 (plus 2 Two-Way Contracts) when the regular season begins in a few days. The Rockets have all 15 roster spots taken, plus one of their Two-Way Contracts. If anything, look for them to find someone off the waiver wire to try to sign to that second Two-Way Contract.
I find these little Morey signings fun sometimes, similar to how many of us (including the media) dissected why Morey got the NG Bros band together. Here we are saying that an essentially 2-day signing is for reasons similar to drafting the player. Minor difference is player has to agree to these signings. So, why not just sign with Vipers directly, since he's obviously willing and must know he's getting cut? Let's break down Morey's overly active thought process here, just for fun, and because I'm not interested in the Spurs threads today I guess the kid still has faith he'll make an NBA roster or Europe, so Morey has to "lock him up" as an affiliate player while the kid hopelessly keeps looking to make a roster after regular season starts. *and* on top of that, if he doesn't make an NBA/Europe team and gives up looking to sign in G-League, we don't want any other G-League team to get him...albeit, he clearly talked to us right now, and was faithful enough to go along with the ruse camp invitee contract to have his G-League rights "locked up." *and*, this is all despite the fact it doesn't really matter which G-League team he signs with wrt which NBA team gives him his 1st NBA contract. Right? Unlike the NBA Draft, G-League affiliate status doesn't mean other teams are blocked from signing you to an NBA contract, right? So, to me: this is just Morey doing stuff just to check off another rule he tested...like getting the NG Bro band together. Morey is weird sometimes. Or maybe this signing is to entertain or distracts other GMs (like a magician) as he works out stealing a camp invitee from another team. lulz Or, the kid is playing all of us plus Europe, and not going to any camps, so his worth, valued in Potential, doesn't take a hit by suiting up (the DMo/BJ strategy). Then in last weekend, he gets in the media by signing this 2-day contract with Morey, and everyone raises their eyebrows...."what is Morey up to?"which increases the kids value enough for a Europe team to grab him Brilliant. Spoiler: OK, here's my serious take This signing is "purely" about an agent asking Morey for a favor to get the player's name in the media. Morey loses nothing, and agent will repay him later for his paperwork trouble. So, who is this agent, and who are his other clients?
Free agents cannot sign with particular G-League teams. All players sign contracts with the LEAGUE. Unless a team has exclusive rights to a player, that player will go into a pool that has its own mechanisms to determine where a player is allocated. If the Vipers wanted House, this was the best way to make that happen.
Danuel House is also Houston native. Vipers probably his first choice, too. Cute little tidbit, House was a major player in the largest, last-minute comeback in NCAA history. This was 2nd Round of NCAA tourny. 14 in 44 -- has a familiar ring to it, 'eh Led by Alex Caruso's 25 points and 22 more from Danuel House in the second half and overtimes, the third-seeded Aggies (28-8) rallied from 12 points down with 44 seconds remaining in regulation. Put Bima on ignore temporarily and let's talk about whether or not Daniel South Jr is ready to start. Okay, I've already messed up because it's Danuel, but I bet you may have ignored the mistake. So he has that going for him, which is nice. No one knows his moves, so there's that aspect to his offensive game. Can't stop something that you don't know is coming. So one of Danuel's best plays is... give me a sec... gotta look him up. So Danuel logged one minute in the NBA against the San Antonio Spurs and he had zeros across the board which means he's a low turnover guy. That's a really positive sign. Also, he's 24 so he's not just some rookie. He's coming in with infinitely more NBA experience than the ENTIRE rookie class. I was unable to locate highlights and I assume that's because House is sneaky. He gets it done without highlighting anything in particular. This shows his wide range of NBA skills in a way. Here's another thing that is impossible to negate: The man has good taste. And my favorite Clutchfans idiom: Discuss.
yes After returning in the second half of the 2016-17 season, House bounced between the Wizards and the Delaware 87ers of the D-League on occasion. He played 10 games in Delaware, and averaged 13.3 points per game and 5.7 rebounds, while shooting 45.6% from the field and 41.9% on three-pointers.
