The only reason I say that is because if it's purely a money issue, he's played this about as terribly as someone can play it. I would imagine an agent, friend, wife, etc... would have enough sense to knock him upside the head by now.
I think it started out 100% about money, but then he got butt hurt when the team didn't cave or worse when they told him he wasn't worth it. Now there's butthurt on top of a money issue.
The more this goes the more I wish he wasn't one. He isn't man enough, or a good enough teammate to abide by his contract and give us the player we signed to help us to begin with. His BS greed makes me wish we had never signed him to begin with. Duane Brown is a big old jerk in my eyes.
It's interesting that you question his manhood and loyalty over this. Yet you won't question the team when they cut players just to save money. Many players have held out and Duane isn't even the only one currently holding out. I guess Aaron Donald is also a big old jerk. And Kam Chancellor too. This is not about abiding by a contract. Holding out is the player's only way out. Teams have the option to cut you or ask you to take less pay or even trade you. Holding out is the little bit of power the players have. And it is understood. I'm sure every single player on that team isn't mad at Brown. They understand the business and they know that if he wins, they all win. You wanna know why the Texans haven't cut him? Because they know they are better with him than without him, even if it is for a portion of the season. If that's the case, they should make an exception and negotiate. You can't get mad at the player for not being committed to the team when the team isn't even committed to the team.
There's no doubt that if he keeps this BS up he'll just go down as the next Dunta Robinson and be largely forgotten by the Texans fanbase within a few years.
At this point I could see us wanting to trade Duane to recoup our draft losses. On the other hand, our o line is so bad outside of mancz and Martin
If someone offered a 2 I'd take it for Brown. He's talking about needing guarantees...I guarantee the couch doesn't pay as well as bob McNair.
No team in their right mind gives anywhere near a 2 for Brown, Wed probably get a 5th at best and at that price, hes worth more to us than that but Id think about it.
He's worth more as a message to future players that the kind of nonsense Duane Brown is pulling is fully unacceptable and won't lead to anything good for you.
In this instance I like it, but if they were treating the player poorly and weren't budging, I might not like it.
If Brown misses this game, is that when he starts losing money? And if he shows up on game day and said he was ready to play, would he get paid?
He's already lost like 250k due to his holdout, if he misses this game he'll lose an additional 440k. I'm not 100% sure about if him showing up on gameday would be enough for him to get paid, but if it was, he'd have to stay with the team after that time so it's not like he can only show up for games and skip out on everything else.
