Oh, the guy who did his best Mike Trout impersonation against the Astros when Trout was out. Good times... Spoiler Untouchable Derek FIsher is having a hard time replacing Nori Aoki so they thought why not grab another OF.
It's a good move. This team actually does need players who have baserunning IQ. And we gave up cash.... Nobody else has traded for Verlander yet either.
Maybin is horrible and you think this is a move to try and appease fans? What fans were calling for anything even remotely close to this? It's kind of hard to appease when there was no demand. Fisher is still on the team and will be tomorrow regardless. There's clearly something in Maybin's bag of tools that Luhnow thinks will add to this team.
Makes sense to add baserunning. But makes even more sense if they're about to trade Fisher for Verlander.
It appeases fans because we did "something". We got a player who's name people might recognize. Proof is we have people who actually like this move. I'm really hoping this is because we're shipping someone out for Verlander today.
He's a 1.6 WAR guy in 93 games played. Good defense, good baserunning. He's definitely a good pickup. If the team didn't pick up this guy for the cost of just money, no assets, I'd question why. The offense is good, but it's not exactly humming lately.
Players not on 40-man, cash, and PTBNL. I guess technically they could be a PTBNL, but we would still get to use them until after the year.
I don't see how this trade could have any reflection on a possible Verlander trade. No player on our 40-man that the Tigers would want (they are rebuilding) would clear waivers.
I think it was for defense more than anything else. Once the league showed that they'd figured Fisher out, his arm became a huge liability in left. We need great defense to back our pitching up. Fisher had been a zero for the past month. As in, I can't remember the last time fisher got a hit.
I think what he is trying to say is that adding Maybin doesn't free up anyone on 40-man to be traded. Astros can still trade guys not on 40-man, but as these guys are unaffected by Maybin trade, Maybin trade has no link to possible future trades.
The Astros claimed him off the waiver wire and the Angels didn't pull him back. I am not sure if someone off our 40 man can be included as a PTBNL or not. With Detroit trading Upton, it makes me believe there is a real possibility of Verlander being dealt and wanting out. Several reports that the Tigers have told teams they are not rebuilding.
Thought the Astros had sent cash from early reports, but appears I was wrong as newer reports are saying just a waiver claim. Upton trade does indicate Detroit is rebuilding. I'm just saying the Maybin trade does not indicate it will be to the Astros or not.
Agree with you, we assume that the Astros would be in the middle of an effort to get Verlander, but we don't know for sure.... only that it appears more likely that Verlander will be dealt.
