    Here some things to consider: if the Cavs could somehow get the Knicks to take a package centered on Tristan Thompson, Jae Crowder, JR Smith and Shumpert and whatever spare assets they have floating around, would Melo want to play with Kevin Love and LeBron since he would probably be coming off the bench? Would the Cavs now be willing to trade Kevin Love and gamble on a 33 year old Anthony, Thomas and next year's Nets pick being enough to keep LeBron around?

    Rockets got lucky here.

    Pretty sure had the Kyrie situation come about earlier they could've easily flipped him for Cp3 plus other assets.

    No doubt Melo would be pushing to join the cavs at that point.

    I wonder if cp3 is wondering what could've been.

    I doubt it. But he is human.

    people seem to be forgetting that a deal where we were giving up Ryno plus filler was very close to being done before the Knicks hired Scott Perry...also, it was reported that the Knicks were willing to take Austin Rivers, Jamal Crawford, and Pierce who has now retired from the Clippers during the regular season

    they have shown that they're definitely willing to take back garbage for Melo

    Steve Mills is the one who was working the phones while the Knicks were discussing both of those garbage deals, and he's the one who's ultimately in charge even after the hiring of Scott Perry

    let's see what happens as we get closer to training camp which is still a couple of weeks away

    The Knicks will never take back Shump or JR. They already went through that experiment. Those 2 are poison to a young, rebuilding team. U don't want your young guys being influenced by them or picking up their bad habits.

    If the Cavs genuinely thought that trading Love for Melo would help entice Lebron to stay then I think they would've done that trade already. They've had the opportunity to do so for months and have refused. Would this trade really affect their thinking to the extent that they'd now be willing to do what they've refused to do for months?

    Lebron is gonna do what's best for him. If he can leave D-Wade coming off a 4th straight trip to the finals then he can leave Melo if he got traded to Cleveland as well.

    IMO, Melo knows that him going to Cleveland still does not guarantee that Lebron would stay, and he is not trying to be stuck in Cleveland post-Lebron or go there for 1 year and then have to try and find a new home with most good teams in the NBA not having much cap space.

    If we would have not got Cp3 Morey would've offered 2 first round picks, Capela, Gordon, Beverly and Ariza

    Man really hope this melo trade happens, if we can't work anything out with Knicks GM.

    I think lebron will be in melo's ear.

    Cavs GM got a unprotected 1st from trader Danny for a player that's wanted out.

    Scared he might be offering ante + shumpert package that fits what Knicks are wanting in young players

    Told y'all Kyrie would be traded first. This deal doesn't do anything for speeding things up with us.

    Now that Detroit ain't getting Kyrie (not that they really ever had a shot)
    Ryno + HOU 2020 1st + 2018 2nd (via HOU) --> DET
    Melo --> HOU
    Tobias Harris + rights to Gentille & Llull + expirings --> Knicks

    I'm sure he's a home with Lil Chris watching the highlight of his alley oop from Harden before Lil Chris goes off to school for the day.

    None of the scenarios involved appeasing a player. Paul George wasn't traded to OKC for his happiness. The last thing Indy cared about was pleasing him after how he treated them. Chris Paul wanted to be traded to Houston, yes, but the trade was made so the Clippers don't lose him for nothing, and got a pretty big return for a player that was leaving anyway. Again, yes Kyrie is probably happy he's in Boston, but Cleveland did it because of IT, Crowder and BKN pick. Again, these are all obvious statements, but you literally just changed the narrative (appeasing the star, which clearly wasn't the case) to make your argument.

    Where we stand with Carmelo?

    Houston & New York have talked, been talking, there's really no way for them to do a deal directly with each other. New York doesn't want Ryan Anderson's deal. Right now, both teams are relatively resigned to the fact that there may not be a deal to do here before the start of the season, that they'll get into the season & see where they go. Houston wants Melo for the playoffs. The idea of not having him for the start of the season or early in the year, if they eventually get to him, they're fine with that.

    And he won't open up for any other team?

    Knicks are hoping he will, that he'll open it up & they can look at other places to do deals where there is more of a pathway. It will ultimately depend on how badly, if at all, he wants to leave New York. Knicks are hoping he'll get back to New York, maybe it'll be a more functional team, maybe it'll go better. He's never not liked being in New York. They're hoping he either says "I'm OK with staying" or "You can't get this done Houston, let's look at Portland, let's look at some other places." They're not there yet but that's the hope the Knicks have because they're not enthralled with any deal they can do with Houston.

    Thing is, a lot of teams can offer a lot better than we can. I don’t think Melo goes to cleveland without assurances that Lebron stays, so I doubt that Melo expands to Cleveland. We still hold the cards. Just waiting on NY to fold.
