I'm saying that Thai is my favorite food, I travel a bit--including to Thailand, and that I seek out the best Thai restaurants wherever I go. In MY opinion, Kanomwan makes one of the two best Tom Kha Gai's I ever had.....if not the best. It would be even better if they would poach the chicken breast in it just until done....rather than cooking it 'till past "done." But their broth is stellar. Perfectly balanced. I've always liked Kanomwan much better than Thai Gourmet; although they suffer from the opposite issue; you have to really remind kanomwan to make things spicy where with Thai Gourmet, they typically makes their dishes MUCH more spicy than restaurants in Thailand. Still, Thai Gourmet was my #2 in Houston (until I tried this Thai Stellar), and TG makes some dishes that Kanomwan does not. Besides the whole fish and the shrimp (both with the sweet/spicy chili sauce), my other favorite dishes at kanomwan are the yum woon sen and the pad woon sen. I'm hungry now.
Going to visit relatives that live out that way next week and taking in an Astros game. I'll do what I can to go there (persuading people, ha ha), since I love Thai food. I've been to Bangkok, but it was years ago.
Kanomwan is closer if you are inside the loop. It's actually pretty close to Minute Maid. It's a hole in the wall.......in every sense of the word. It's in the last place you'd expect a Thai restaurant, and the first place you'd expect a Taqueria. Both places are BYOB.
Check their hours though. I tried going their at 7pm on a Saturday once after heading back from Galveston and they were closed. I think their more known as a lunch spot. However, don't go to Kanomwan at lunch during the weekdays or expect a really bad wait. A lot of people from downtown go their for lunch
They live in the League City/Clear Lake area, so your first suggestion is a good one. I'm eager to try Kanomwan, though. I'll try to hit it when I'm on a longer visit. Thanks for the ideas!
When they say "do you want it thai hot?" and you say "yes, but...how many is that?", and they say "Five"... Do NOT say "six". My lips are melting.
No particular order and off the top of my head Vieng Thai Kun Kay Mint Thai (Waugh & a location in NW Houston) Pinto Thai (Dairy Ashford & I-10)
Your Kitchen restaurant on long point and bunkerhill is a secret place to get drive thru Thai/Vietnamese food. It’s a treasure the Curry is awesome.
They are being sued by multiple former employees, hence the "staffing" issues. Great food, but shady business practices.
Scamming them out of their tips and thus paying below minimum wage. The employee who gathered the info from other employees was fired and is now suing them for that as well, separately. Good riddance. Yall can eat thai food somewhere else.
Yeah. But. I want that food though. ****, man. It's when Elaine likes a guy, but finds out he's anti-abortion and has to dump him.
