Still baffled why Morey traded for him since he couldn't be traded until August. Was it just a misstep by Morey?
He could be traded. Just not packaged for salary-matching purposes. The cash considerations wasn't much. Maybe he looked at it as a Summer League try-out....and Uthoff failed his test. Of course, he was signed kinda before the Melo stuff was fully in play. So, Bima's point about the hardcap could be something that wasn't that much of a worry, when Melodrama was still on the 99 yrd line.
I tweeted that question to him a little before you posted this. I think Uthoff is eligible to sign a two-way, even with us. Here's a comment from Larry Coon in the CBA. Morey cut him prior to his guarantee. If a player is waived from a standard NBA contract with a guarantee greater than $50,000, then for the rest of that season he cannot play for that team’s D-League affiliate or sign a Two-Way contract with any team. Of course, the dude probably wants a real NBA Contract. That's quite a cut in pay to go from $1.3m minimum salary to a 2-way that caps at $275k, albeit it can be converted to a full NBA (prorated) later. But if I were Uthoff, I'd be asking my agent to find a full contract like I had last year, and would not do a 2-way until giving up after pre-season.
It's a hostage situation. If James Dolan doesn't trade Melo to the Rockets, Morey cuts the NG bros one by one.
I dm'd Jared Uthoff on insta if we were going to get Melo. Same day few hours later he got cut. I feel really bad for him now
Totally snorked (combo of chuckle and snort) TBH it's a "we will never know situation".. but his 2017 summer league stats definitely SSSUUCCCKKKEEEDDDD
