I am somewhere between you and Nick. I dont want Fiers pitching in the playoffs, but not for any reason I can pinpoint. I just dont trust him. Every inning I expect him to revert to his early season failures. I know what his numbers say, but something about his demeanor doesn't instill confidence in me.
Peacock is available in the pen today. This could be a preview of Game 3/4. Fiers gets you four or five and Peacock takes it to the back-end of the pen.
Who is clamoring for simply going 5? Also, Fiers consistently struggling to go 5 in the regular season is not something I expect to translate come post-season (where good hitting teams are especially adept at fouling off pitchers' pitches... especially those at the velocity of Fiers').
McCann + Fiers is a guarantee. Just looked: every time they've had a guy on 1B with 2B open they've stolen it, 3-3.
How can Fiers just cruise then all of a sudden lose it? To me it's mostly psychological he just stops concentrating on every single pitch
Fiers needs to locate that fastball or he leans too much on the curve. Hung up too much on him tonight.
He wasn't really cruising through the first few innings today. He was pitching OK, but it wasn't his best - he was getting a lot of deep counts, etc.
Yes, if only we just go out and get pitchers who never have bad games, this sport would be much easier. Brilliant idea!
He wasn't that sharp to begin with, location-wise. Then the 2nd/3rd time through the lineup, after they've seen his stuff and clocked it....
.... he's facing one of the worst lineups in all of baseball. I'm all for him being the 5th or 6th starting pitcher that probably doesn't see much playoff time (like in 2015)... and he's every much the same pitcher who they chose not to throw out there in the playoffs, and I'd like to hope this staff is better equipped than the 2015 one (and if they aren't, they need to get there... hopefully soon).
