Jason Martin just hit a 3-run homer cleared the bases with a double for Corpus. He and Jack Mayfield have homered in 3 straight games.
J.J, Matijevic is starting to get himself back on track after a little slump. He hit a solo homer (4) in Tri-City's 8-1 win over Lowell tonight and finished 2-3 with 3 runs scored.
Daz Cameron just hit a 3-run homer for Quad Cities, his 11th of the season. He's destroyed lefties this year (.378/.467/.622, 3 HR, 18 RBI), albeit in 74 at-bats. Against RHP, though... he was slashing .205/.269/.402 in 234 ABs entering tonight.
@tellitlikeitis Do you know whether Brendan McCurry's suspension precludes him from playing in the MLB postseason? I couldn't remember whether that is part of the suspension. He's playing so well that I have to wonder whether Hinch might want him to be part of the postseason, particularly if we don't trade for a reliever this month.
Cypress Woods HS product Chad Donato (11th rd 2016, W Va) is making his 4th appearance in the GCL today after missing his 2016 pro season due to Tommy John surgery. Including his 1st inning pitched today, he is sporting a 1.50 ERA.
Abraham Toro hit his 5th homer for Tri-City... it was a solo shot. He finished 3-4 and scored 3 runs for the ValleyCats as they beat Lowell 5-1 in Dallas Keuchel's rehab start. Kit Scheetz, an undrafted free agent from Virginia Tech, allowed a hit and struck out 6 over 4 innings after coming on for Keuchel. Scheetz has walked 1 and struck out 22 in his first 16 pro innings (9.2 in TC, 6.1 in the GCL).
How would you like to be in short season A ball and facing arguably the best pitcher in the AL? On one hand, it has to be kinda cool, on the other you probably wish it wasn't going against your stat line.
Never thought about that. If the guy has served his suspension and is on the eligible list as of Aug31, I haven't heard of a rule that would prevent it.
I honestly have no idea and thought any response would be satisfactory. But really, I can only imagine a bunch of minor leaguers wondering aloud about how a guy who: 1. got busted for a positive PED test in the minors 2. served his time 3. got his contract selected by his playoff-bound MLB club ...was allowed to appear in a MLB playoff game.
Freudis Nova through 23 games for the DSL Orange team: .320/.446/.413, HR, 10 RBI, 19 R, 12 BB, 13 K, 4 SB (3 CS), .859 OPS
Elieser Hernandez made his return to the Buies Creek pitching staff last night: 5 IP, H (solo HR), ER, 5 K Brett Adcock followed with 4 innings and allowed a run on a solo homer, 2 other hits, and struck out 5. Hernandez has shown that he can pitch, but he's going to need to get some results going his way in High-A. At 22 heading into his age-23 season, he's got a little time. Adcock has really found his groove since he moved up to the Carolina League a little over 2 months ago. Wouldn't surprise me if he starts 2018 in Corpus. Walk rate still a bit high, but definitely less appalling than what he posted at Michigan last year.
Matijevic is starting to swing it. Would love to see him get a few ABs in QC before the season is over.
