O'quinn is way better than Tarik Black. He's a little taller and he can shoot free throws and mid range. Also he has a bigger body.

Honestly defensively O'quinn maybe better than Capela because he can hold his ground against any big man in the NBA. We would just miss the lobs.

Add some protected draft picks, and you could have a deal.

way better? well that's completely false. all of your post is based on your personal opinion. fact is the effect of both of those guys oquinn and black on the actual game is not much different

a little taller, i guess that makes people better...shoot free throws, ok the 1 FT he might take a game. midrange, that he wouldn't be shooting here

The Rockets have no choice but to go all in. Melo changes the scope drastically for recruiting purposes and give us a legit chance to win a championshop. With a new owner on the horizon, Maury must produce now. We only have a 3 year window IMO to win a chip. Like a blind man in an orgy, Maury needs to keep feeling things out around the league...

Mills doesn't want to get into a public war with Carmelo
Houston is prepared for the fact that these negotiations could run through August, September, possibly into training camp as NY tries to rebuild his value & threaten people with the idea they'll bring him back to start the season

We definitely have to go all in. When are we going to have another chance to add a player of Melo's caliber without gutting the team? We also need to be able to keep him around for awhile, which means we need to trade for him. It is a no brainer.

With that said, there is no way I'd give up Capela as some have suggested in this thread. He's way too valuable. It isn't just the conversion on lobs, it is the direct pressure he constantly puts on the rim. Even when we don't toss it up to him, he must be accounted for, which opens up others.

I don't want to give up anyone but Anderson, the NG's and picks. But I'd be willing to give up Llull, Williams, and Taylor. If it came down to it, I'd trade Gordon too - even though I'd absolutely hate that. Doing so hurts our chances this year, but his scoring can be made up for more easily with Paul and Melo than replacing Capela. Unless we are getting an elite big back, you don't trade Capela. Going forward, you can find a decent shooter for the MLE. You can't find a decent big for the MLE.

Woj sounds really confident that a deal will get done before start of season.

It's really awesome that Melo told them he's not interested in talking about it.

Looks like we might as well sit back and relax a bit. Sounds like this trade isn't getting done anytime soon.

I think you're on to something. Knicks really need a PG -- they want Bledsoe, but the Suns would rather keep Bledsoe and cut Knight loose. I could see the Knicks getting desperate and accepting Knight. And that wouldn't be SO bad for them; Knight had his minutes slashed last season, but he put up almost 20 PPG in '15-'16 (albeit inefficiently). Knight is only 25 and so would fit into the Knicks' "athleticism and youth" mission statement.

From the Suns perspective, Knight's contract is almost as bad as Anderson's, and the Suns don't have anyone over 6'7" that can shoot. They'd much rather see Knight's minutes go to Booker, Bledsoe, and maybe Ulis.

How do we reconcile the idea that Mills doesn't want a war with Melo, but he wants to hold Melo as leverage indefinitely?

Mills was one of the top minds for maybe the smartest basketball organization of all time (the Kings) and he was hand picked to run the second smartest organization of all time (the Knicks). I think he knows what hes doing and will run laps around Morey.

I think you're confusing Mills with Perry.

Looks like Mills was CEO of Madison Square Garden and then joined a Wealth Management group. Certainly an unorthodox path to GM of a team. It also means he isn't going to go for a buyout, as he's a finance guy.

Also, I'm sure Ryan Anderson isn't having a fun offseason if he reads any news.
