How? What happens if we keep Melo. We have a bad contract for 2 years instead of 3 w Anderson?

If you're Melo, this moves the cavs way up in your mind. Too much uncertainty with the rockets. Announcing at a time like this is also not good.

It's really kind of simple. If he stays and sucks, he has not trade value during the season. He opts in bc he won't get anything close to 27 mil after season. That's the risk of not trading him. But What is the point of trading him for longer financial restraint by simply taking RA?

But they have even less to offer! There's no way a trade can be made with them. It's Morey working magic to move Anderson to a sucker, or Melo stays for another year. If he does that, and he opts in, we stretch him and take the 27 million cap hit over 5 years. That's only 5 and change per year. Not awful

For those who think the NBA would block this trade.... wake up.

NBA wants some competition for the Warriors. Silver has probably already called NY and told them to do it already(kidding).

There are reports of Melo not being sure about the Cavs because LeBron might leave.
Now there is a possibility the new ownership cheaps out and doesn't sign CP3 to an extension.

In any case now the scale tips back to 50/50. I don't imagine he wants to be in New York no matter what happens though. And at worst if CP3 gets dealt because the new ownership are cheap pieces of human garbage that deserve to die for ruining our franchise at least Harden will be here to stay and that might be enough to make us more favorable than the Cavs.

It's going to happen Rockets fans, but it's going to take some time. Hou is going to have to get Pho involved somehow to get B Knight in the pic. He fits the mold of what we are looking for. I'm not saying he's good, but he's young and he's a PG to take some of the pressure of Nkitilina. I actually would be happier with Isiah Taylor myself, but the albatross of RA's contract makes it too tough a trade to pull trigger on.

How is there any certainty in Cleveland when Bron can & will likely bolt next year?

Well, that's speculation on our parts. The uncertainty here is greater..look around the NBA to see how owners have impacted their organization. Lebron "may" leave but he will definitely be there is year. I honestly don't see Lebron leaving though.

of course. Its math. For a rebuilding team, how much will go vs the cap. You hold him this year w the hope that he'll get sick of this crap and open up his NTC list; if he doesn't - and he opts in, you waive him for a cap hit of 5.2 mil per year over 5. If you have RA, and you wait til after the year, you are stretching 40 mil over 5 years to a tune of 8 mil per year against the cap. What's the point?

And why are they mad blazers want melo if they are the one giving the knicks the players. while blazers get trash anderson. If this was the other way around rockets would do the same.

There's no longer any reason to be certain that Chris Paul will be in Houston longer than a year.

Right - listen - everyone is trying to accomplish the same thing, except the Rockets. Everyone wants to free up future cap space and get younger. The Rockets don't have the luxury of helping other teams accomplish that. It makes it a tricky situation. I happen to like Hartenstein, Taylor and Williams a lot, but apparently the knicks scouts don't assess their value enough to take the financial burden of RA. So it's on the Rockets to find a deal for Anderson. Is there a team that avidly wants him bc they sorely miss that 3 point sniper? Maybe, but that's not for the Knicks to figure out.

True, but Harden still will be. Say Bron goes... I'm sure Melo is dying to play with Love over Harden.

Again its now up in the air for both teams.

Melo has an opt-out any way so I don't think that matters to him one way or another.
