The NBA isn't a free market like Europe is. There is a salary cap.
The worst possible is to bring an owner like that, a Prokhorov jr who will want to spend to win asap. That's how trading multiple first rounders happens, and how filling your salary cap for years with overpaid players happens.

Dude, look who the owner is for the Knicks. Melo will GLADLY take the risk and head to Houston even with uncertainty with ownership.

lol stfu, you really think morey is more likely to get fired with new owners. get real, he's been one of the most successful and competent GM in the league. Anyone with a decent brain would see that, maybe not you I guess or you're just trolling

He may well have wanted to give extensions to guys to take care of them financially in case they do get fired as a reward for good service.

Very true. I worked for him.

He's also going to put casinos in Gtown even if it takes him ten more years

Le$ looked out for Morey. Morey gets his money regardless of what happens now.

That doesn't mean Morey was surprised or that this change came about within a matter of a couple of days. It's not like Le$$ woke up two days ago and though "hey I'm going to have a surprise press conference announcing I will sell the team, without telling my GM or President. No chance of that whatsoever. I promise you this is not going to effect personnel decisions until a new owner is actually the one making them.

you stfu and get real. Have you had any experience with new owners or you just a blind homer who has no clue what has been happening in the league when teams change owners?

To everyone who thinks "oh whatever, basketball is basketball it won't change anything important to me as a fan..." you're dead wrong. Culture starts at the top and not every owner has the same priorities. Leslie Alexander has said championship or bust and has put together a front office obsessed with analytics to achieve that goal. Not every owner will take that approach. A new owner might say, you know what? Let's trade away all our best players and tank for a few years, that way we can build a great team but save some money in the first few years (see Astros). Other owners might take more hands off approach and try to weigh in on deals and make stupid mistakes (see Kings). Others might be like, well, I want to win but I'm going to cut expenses so I can make money, so let's cut front office resources, some amenities, and under no circumstances will we ever pay the tax. There are all kinds of terrible possibilities that make this scary.

Hardens extension was business move to make the price go up.

Le$ had this planned for a little while. Wouldn't be shocked if Paul is offered an extension to further drive up the price. Will Paul sign it? That's another question

Yea, as a Les & Morey critic, I have to acknowledge this. It was always easy b****ing about them but the fact of the matter is that their analytics and wining mentality have benefitied the rockets. Look at the **** teams in the east and some in the west like the wolves, kings, pelicans

There would be 20 teams lined up to fire their GM's is we cut loose Morey.

The Rockets really are an excellent situation to come in to. Upper tier market,a city stars are willing to play in, modern arena, superstar already in place, and quality front office personnel.

But rich people tend to want things their way, which is what makes this whole situation so dangerous. Hopefully it's just a crazy rich guy that is willing to stay out of Morey's way.

Fertitta would be perfect. A true Houstonian with the money to do it.

Porkorov didn't have a qualified GM to run that shitshow in Brooklyn. Did he? Least with Morey and certainly someone like Yao involved, it wouldn't be that bad IMO

Someone made a good point on Reddit: owners that have (recently) hurt their team's chances of winning have been from one of three situations:
    1. They've held onto the team for decades and haven't adjusted to the "new money" NBA (Reinsdorf, DeVos)
    2. Bought the team as a "plaything" with new money (Vivek, Gilbert, Prokhorov)
    3. Inherited the team (Dolan)
