This is mike d'antoni's system and morey's. He's suppose to shoot jumpers. however, from what we saw, he wasn't good at making them. He's not ready for the nba yet. people who say he's ready to be in the rotation now need to watch him actually play in the summer league.
he's nothing like Yao nor should he try to play like him. From the few clips I see of him, he plays a lot on the perimeter in China and does shoot threes
It was mentioned in the broadcast that the rockets envision him playing more 3/4 than Center. So I think they have him playing that way to get him use to it. Remember in this offense, there won't be many post up plays. I think its key for him to get a nice 3 ball going and on defense, improve his close out defense on perimeter. And this was definitely a block. Goal tend lol
goaltending lol... not a damn person on the court was asking for it but "clutchfans" are. what a time to be alive.

AFAIK, even in China, Zhou Qi went 3 pointers at most occasionally to stretch the defense. It was never his killer weapon (~34% in CBA) . I'm not surprised he did poorly from 3s, but 1/12 is really ugly. In an interview, he said he was still not comfortable shooting from the NBA 3 pointer line, particularly in motion. I would prefer to see Zhou Qi go more midrange shots, that's what he did decently in China, particularly from the wings. My understanding is that the coach is experimenting and hoping Zhou Qi to get used to contributing from 3 pointer lines. I think he has the potential, given his soft touch. But I agree he is too raw to play rotation role right away.
The Rockets don't know what mid range jumpers are. He needs to play like Ralph Sampson, no way he can be Yao cause that's not the system the Rockets run .
Yao couldn't leap 3 feet off the floor. Look how high he leaped on that block and with that crazy wingspan ... I think he could be used sporadically for defensive purpose, especially our front court is so thin.
he had good blocks in that game, but i thought that was going down. i hate his 1 for 12 shooting in two games.
Tinman with some truth and non-homerism on this board. I like it! Now if only we can get everyone else to be a realist!
I think the CBA 3-pt line is still 6.75m (22'), so there's going to be an adjustment period. The schedule (three games in four days) and the faster pace don't help this "slump." Also, during the broadcast, someone said he that he is/was lifting weights 3-4 times a week. It's not like he was known as a three point shooter, though, but he did start shooting a bit more 3s during the 2017 playoffs (7-18 in 13 games)
He had better blocks that were blocks in this game. The only reason why this is a highlight is because he smacked the ball in the stands vs a marquee player. Josh Jackson was the best player in that game. And for the Rockets the best players were Troy and Isiah. I was excited to see this dude play, but the first game I saw him play he racked 0 points and 7 fouls and 4 turnovers http://www.nba.com/games/20170708/HOUCLE#/boxscore You realize some of these people who comment about this dude HAVE NOT SEEN HIM PLAY
If you are with us in Vegas in summer league and watched these full games, you would see that he is as far away from Dream as China is from the planet Pluto.
During the first game, they were mentioning John Lucas is working with him to be a 3/4. Looks like they are trying to mold him into a stretch 4 like Ryno. There is probably also an adjustment period for the coaching staff to give that up. I see him be an elbow 4.
