Surprising news, if true. Not that he would be ticked off by an agreed deal "suddenly" shrinking by a year and $4 million bucks, that's not surprising, but that it ever got to this point. You would think that the change in contract would be quietly straightened out by Morey and Nene's agent. Weird.
Look, On the cool this is some embarrassing BJ Armstrong, not knowin the CBA type ish. Can this actually be blunder #2 for Daryl Morey. First one being the Uthaoff trade by not knowin he cannot be aggregated with any other contract?!?! I think this isnt Daryl's first mistake of the new CBA. Put down the donuts and pick up the CBA MORELYYYY. Lull SEE!
The structure of the Nene contract with Houston is three-years, $10.9m. Houston is not permitted to give Nene a four-year contract because of the Over 38 rule. The fourth season would have extended past his 38th birthday. So they have to offer more money for the extra year he can't get or I guess lose him?
This is bizarre. On ESPN last night, Windhorst pointed out that Nene would not have been able to get the fourth year if they had agreed to terms today because of the rule change. He said he only received it because they agreed to the deal before midnight / the rule change. I'm guessing maybe that was not completely accurate? Either way, not good.

Doubt it, it's clear why he said no. The difference is $4 million from what he signed and what he was presented with.
What happened since was Morey pulling a bait and switch like he did with DMo. It seems he hasn't learned his lesson yet.
Wow, the way they make it sound morey changed the offer when the rules changed it. Who cares, we already got chris paul.
I'm just not sure how to resolve this. The only other way to offer him any more money is to use our MLE...a lot of it. Can't fault Nene for being hesitant,he doesn't owe the Rockets anything and the contract shrunk a lot. While only a solid player, he fills a major gap in the roster. Hopefully we can get this straightened out. Sucks to get stung by our own MO. We are serial loophole users, and some minor detail got us.
This. If it's not resolved and he signs a similar deal somewhere else, it'd be very strange. If someone sneaks in with an MLE like payday than can't really fault us for letting him go.
