Just report the damn news. I work from home a couple days a week and I have ESPN on all day. They go over the same 5 stories all day. Barely heard a thing about Memphis, Spurs, Houston, bucks. Just ****ing bullshit like Westbrook having shitty teammates, Aaron Hernandez, some guy talking about black privilege, the Chicago Bulls, like holy ****
This is true, but to be fair to ESPN, they're in a no-win situation on this one, I think. They have a LOT of time to kill during the day, and frankly, there's often not a heck of a lot going on in sports. So their choices are to keep hammering the handful of stories that they feel move the needle for the average sports fan or try to dig a little deeper and come up with new angles and new stories, at which point, they often get hit with the criticism that they're trying to create news rather than report it. I get tired of sports news being the same five stories as well, but I can see how it's not an enviable position for ESPN to be in.
This is because they have a gazillion channels. If they only had 1-2 networks and actually talked about all the sports thats going on they would have enough content. But please...tell me again why westbrook should win the MVP. go on.
I think their business model has just become untenable. Sports simply doesn't need a 24/7 channel anymore with the internet breaking all the big stories. But the main reasons I don't watch ESPN are two fold. 1. Everything is centered on NY/LA/CHI/BOS. 2. Too many talking heads arguing inane topics.
I think it was just a few years ago that most of us would tune in to sportscenter to see highlights of the games from that night. Of course Rockets highlights lasted 5 secs and it was at the end. But with NBA and NFL.com both showing immediate highlights..no one needs to wait for ESPN to pick it up especially with the bias towards the big markets. With social media, people are already getting the "discussion" of their teams without having to wait for espn "analysts" to talk about it.
I've been places where this sort of thing happened. The slow trickle is demoralizing and remaining ESPN staff need closure so they can move on from worrying about their jobs and mourning colleagues. They must finish the layoffs immediately and announce no more are planned.
The more I think about it, the more it is crazy to me that they just haven't put out a list of who is laid off, forcing folks to put out the announcement via Twitter. "Hey everyone, guess I have to inform you my employer no longer values my services and therefore I am having to humble myself to make the announcement because they aren't doing it for you. I have to act like I loved working here because I want to get another job in the industry." -everylaidoffemployee
Don't like this at all. I prefer it when Woj competes with and humiliates ESPN. But whatever pay increase he's getting is well-deserved.
