My draft expectations turned to hot dung fast this year. Two takeaways from this draft I really wanted was Jake Butt (TE) & DeAngelo Yancey (WR). With both, the Texans could be dominant on offense for the next 10 years. Most mock drafts never registered Yancey being chosen in 7 rounds; but I had a 4th round grade on him. I was hoping the Texans would pick him in the 7th round or undrafted pick up after the draft. Packers just took him in the 5th round. Rogers and Packers are going to turn him into a beast. What Justin Blackmon should have been. Oh well. Good luck Texans. . Good luck to all Texans picks. May it be a great year.
Well there's really not any open spots at WR on the roster and at TE I could see them bringing in another guy that can block, but they do have 3 guys at that spot already.
The Texans have safeties on the Roster. KJ Dillon got hurt. Lonnie Ballentine (who is prototype size and speed) has just had BAD Luck. He should finally have his shot to start training camp healthy. Plus...Drummond, Corey Moore, and Eddie Pleasant are still there.....Not to mention Hal.
6'2 that's a good size to become a Tight End plug of sorts . One of the bad things i felt about not resigning bouye was that Bouye had turned into a TE shutdown specialist. Using my Morley magical analytics app, I figured out that TEs totaled 566 yards against us and only 3tds. Cardinals being the best at that. The improvement was because of bouye ballin' and many times used against the best opposing TE. Almost picked six brady on attempted pass to benett who finished with 1 reception for 8 yards.
And Kareem also played some SS. People need to realize this is a team that's ready. Sure they need to sign a Veteran RT after the June 1st cuts. Other than that there two biggest needs in terms of trying to upgrade depth would be upgrading over Weeden with a FA QB and OLB over Tony Washington. I'm looking for the best RT, G, DB, LB in the 7th and with the UDFA's
I didn't even consider that, but you are absolutely right. With his size and physical style of play, he very well could end up being a TE stopper.
There's hundreds of players that get drafted and 32 teams in the league. The likelihood of any one player getting taken by any one team is insanely low. If you go into the draft thinking that your team is going to take a particular player, especially on Day 3, then you're going to end up being very disappointed every year. Also, the idea that two late round draft picks are going to suddenly make the Texans a dominant offense is pretty crazy. If those guys were such sure things, they wouldn't be getting taken on the third day of the draft.
Well the Texans got Conner Barwin the year before Mario Williams was set to hit free agency. Mercilus the year before Conner Barwin was set to hit free agency. Cushing after the season can be released as a 1.2 mil cap hit....4.5 mil before then. Cunningham is a possible replacement in advance. Friedorowicz is a free agent at seasons end. Griffin and Anderson are not blockers. More like big WR's. Because Savage and Weeden are free agents after the season.....we (Texans) had to get a QB on the cheap. Receivers: remember Strong was arrested last offseason. Drugs were found. He is still in the doghouse. Mumphery, Wendell Williams are on the bubble. I'm not losing any sleep if I can upgrade them.
I didn't only target those two player. My draft hopes turned bad on the others I had in mind. Those were just 2 sleepers that were unique; would have been beast in the NFL. You are missing the key word...."BEASTS" Mark down the name Yancey. Jatman20 mentioned him. Every time Rogers throws to him.
Glad I've been recording both NFL network and the ESPN coverage. Went back to see if I missed anything and glad I got to see coach come on ESPN to give the Texans some run. Quite a few questions by Wingo and BOB actually answered many with a smile. I'm sure that's the last time we see that look for quite some time.
Hey guys where are the threads on the texans last two picks I like reading those threads and seeing what y'all have to dai bout them
I'm pretty sure there are a lot of other prospects picked before those guys in the draft that could be described as "beasts." "Beasts" is a pretty subjective term, too. Like, if we're basing term off a player's performance in big games at the college level, Watson is certainly a "beast." If you base it on physical traits, I'd say Cunningham and Davenport could easily be described as "beasts." And as a guy who watched a lot of UT football last season, I think I literally referred to Foreman as a "beast" at least a few dozen times last year. If your only barometer for judging prospects is that a player drafted could be described as a "beast," you could probably make a case for damn near every player taken in the draft.
My question is who will be starting at safety opposite Hal. Would like to see what we have in Dillon, Drummond, and Ballentine. Decoud and of course Kareem switching to safety are also interesting options. I'm sure we've got our eye on some UDFAs we're waiting to snag up. Rick is usually good at finding hidden DB talent.
