I wanted Mahomes but Watson would have been second on my list with Trubisky to follow. How shi**y will the Browns feel if Wentz AND Watson both pan out... I'm actually excited to see Watson develop the dual threat Mariota-like ability.
How bad will the Texans feel if the Browns do better with Osweiler next season than we do with Watson?
I admit I was floored when ESPN announced that the Texans had moved up and took Watson. I immediately jumped on BattelRedBlog and read Matt Weston's scouting report. It's very long and comprehensive and I believe a must read. You can find it here: http://www.battleredblog.com/2017/4/21/15378642/2017-nfl-draft-deshaun-watson-scouting-report Overall, I'm OK with this pick - there are risks to be sure and he does have flaws such as arm strength and playing from the pocket. But this is an impressive young man with outstanding personal qualities. The things that he does well are exactly the things that you look for in this offensive system. The question that Matt posed is THE question that will have the greatest bearing on whether on Watson succeeds or fails: Is this it? Has he maxed out in terms of ability or can he continue to improve? He's going to have to improve to be a successful NFL QB. His arm strength, pocket presence and ability to adjust to the speed and complexity of the QB position are going to be things to watch for with Watson. He is by no means ready to take over running BoB's complex system and where he'll be in a year is anyone's guess. But this is a great kid with a terrific work ethic and attitude so I believe that this was a gamble worth taking. It cost them dearly to be sure but that was the price they had to pay to clean up their (self-inflicted) mess from the Osweiler fiasco.
