Savage is not the starting quarterback. He has never been groomed to be the starting QB presumedly because the staff doesn't think he's that good. The past 3 offseasons consisted of the Texans going out and signing a new starting QB. If Savage was a NFL QB then he would have won the starting job by now.

If we don't fix that O line, you can bet he'll be the starting QB at some point in the season.

Bill O'Brien just emphasized in the post draft press conference that Tom is the starter. Even if it is not true, the players have to put on the same face and NOT throw shade at the declared starter.

Rick Smith said when Saints' pick was in at No. 11, Texans were confident it was time to make the move with Cleveland to trade up for Watson

O'Brien was impressed with Watson's recall of plays, ability to learn new plays & teach them back. On field, played well in clutch moments.

O'Brien on Watson: "This guy is a winner. I don't think anyone can argue with that."

Bill O'Brien: 'Stood out to me is what he did in clutch moments. When chips were down, he was able to lead his team to victory.'

Bill O'Brien said Tom Savage is still the Texans' starting quarterback.

O'Brien on Watson: "When you watch the college tape, there were so many things he did well throughout his career."

Bill O'Brien said his meeting with Deshaun Watson at the combine and at the facility impressed him. He called him poised and instinctive and felt like he was a guy who answers questions honestly and has a good memory.

Bill O'Brien said Deshaun Watson learned plays quickly during visit, had good recall: 'Very impressive guy.'

Rick Smith on Deshaun Watson: 'He's got that winning gene. That leadership, it's infectious.'

Smith on Deshaun Watson: "He's a winner. He's got that winning gene."

Bill O'Brien on Deshaun Watson: 'He threw from the pocket. He made plays on the perimeter."

During his Houston visit, Watson met with some teammates. His communication with players also impressed OB, Smith. Felt he'd be a good fit.

O'Brien on Watson: "I think he'll be a great fit in our culture."

they just asked Smith if Watson will compete for the starting job at training camp and Smith seemed really adamant that Savage will be the starter.

This was a strange scene. Handshakes and smiles in other war rooms. Here the head coach looks like a bored teenager sitting through a world history lecture.

Well you and I both know why that is, but hopefully his "justwinz" and other intangibles will be enough to make up for where he's lacking.

    • The Houston Texans traded up in the draft Thursday to be able to select Clemson QB Deshaun Watson at 12th overall.
    • Watson’s accuracy must have been attractive to Bill O’Brien, as he ranked third in the class with an adjusted completion percentage of 76.1.
    • One of Watson’s greatest asset is his touch on downfield throws; he tossed 14 touchdowns on 20-plus-yard passes, while ranking second in the class in accuracy percentage on 20- to 30-yard throws.
    • Houston appear an interesting fit for Watson, who will need some time to adjust from a spread attack to Bill O’Brien’s pro-style offense.
    • The Texans were desperate for a quarterback, having already given up on Brock Osweiler (who they traded in a salary cap dump to the Browns). Tom Savage was the only other serviceable quarterback on the roster.

I think they should trade 25 and a second for Jimmy G.

The key word is having good memory.

We need a QB that can take 5 sacks per game and won't get his brain messed within just one season.

Seems like a desperate reach. Hope everything works out.

Any idea on who would've made this pick? O'Brien, Rick, McNair?
