Don't kill the guy's confidence. We just played Nene more minutes than he can safely sustain. OK, so we did that on the road, where veteran cool helps. Give the youngster some minutes at home where he can feel the love and respond.
Actually I'm not blaming it on Clint. The organization has known all season that we needed another big, more defense in the paint. If I know it....They know it. It's on them. They had all season to address it. Nothing. Our organization is unbalanced, it's too top heavy right now. Too many basketball decisions being made by Les and James and not enough by Morey and coach. And that is going to doom our season. So you see, while you guys climb on me about hating Clint......I don't hate Clint. I want Clint to succeed as much as any fan. Because his role is critical to our success. But unfortunately I know (and you should too if you were evaluating with your brain and not your heart) that he's going to fail in his role. He's already failing here in the first round. It's only going to get tougher. You can dream with your heart that he'll have better matchups against the Spurs but if you were really objective and you've watched the Spurs and you've seen us play the Spurs then you know what's coming. That's not being psychic. That's understanding basketball, basketball teams, systems, and talent. That's all it is.
Started off bad in the first quarter, was excellent for the rest of the game last night. His rebounding was solid and his shot blocking was a game changer in the series. He averaged 2.6 blocks and 6.5 boards in 22 minutes. Despite the sloppy passing and fumbles/mistimed jumps he only averaged 0.8 turnovers, shot 53% from the field on 7.6 points. Clint surprisingly did well against Kanter, was the reason he was glued to the bench for most of the series, didn't expect that after Kanter's showings in the regular season. Had 2 bad games in OKC, looking at his plus/minus number splits from the regular season I think it's very possible Clint gets nervous on the road which could explain his poor showings a little.
The Spurs ball movement and perimeter shooting worry me a lot more than them trying to go to an inside iso/post game.
Bumped for the pure comedy. OP's thread-starting post: TL;DR: Capela sucks offensively and defensively, Nene should start, Chinanu should get minutes ahead of Capela.
that settles it. I'm done for the season. Clint played 33 minutes the other night so clearly he's going in the WRONG direction. we're doomed.
