Smith talked about what the Texans look for in a quarterback prospect.

"I think there are a lot of variables that go into successful quarterback play," he said. "If you start with the intangibles, there's the work ethic, the leadership, the ability to rally people. There's the ability to be able to command a room, the ability to handle adversity – all of those intangible things you look for.

"Then, the physical skillset. The arm strength, the athletic ability. There's certain size – height, weight and speed – parameters that ideally we look for. There's his playing history, the style of offense he's come from.

"All of those things go into an obvious comprehensive evaluation of the position because it's so important."

Maybe the Texans need an offensive GM. Smith obviously knows his defense.

    Or a new GM.

Smith didn't appear to know much about defensive picks during the Kubiak/Richard Smith/Frank Bush years.

Cushing, Barwin, Quin, Kareem...not bad over a 2 year period.

He needs better scouts for QBs; pretty much hoping they can find a late round gem. They got every position right except for qb

Not to mention Mario Williams. Dude knows his talent on defense. Even though he has his share of Travardos and Brandon Harris. But what GM doesn't?

In other words, he just gave the textbook/ "well no ****"answer.

Rick Smith is here to stay. He will be some part of this organization, one way or another. Cal McNair is the Godfather of his son, or vice versa. His name might as well be Rick McNair.

    He is Little Ricky McNair.

The Texans will never win with him in charge.

We've had, keep having the same discussions every year for the past decade. Nothing has or will change in the near future unless the McNair's start losing what matters most to them. (Money) Which is not likely to happen anytime soon. But will happen someday like it did with the Oilers.

I have a feeling a lot of so called experts will be eating their words over one of these guys they call not worth taking in the first round. Just the thought of missing out on one over an offensive lineman makes me want to scream to the rooftops, "Are you happy now? You got that big fat guy to beef up your offensive line, but don't have a quarterback who can throw 40 yards without a pick." Oh wait, maybe I am wrong and Bill and Rick knew Savage was great, but just wanted to sign Brock for a psychological experiment, by seeing how much disappointment Houstonians could take without going stark raving mad.

All I can picture is a merry-go-round full of second-hand quarterbacks, with two clowns named Bill and Rick taking turns pulling one off to start on our team.
