The interesting thing about public broadcasting cuts is that it disproportionately hits states in coal country (and other poorer states). Here in Minnesota, our public broadcasting system is largely funded on donations (plus CPB contributions). But even CPB doesn't contribute a huge amount (less than 10% of funding) here. Minnesota Public Radio gets a very minimal sum from the state Compare that to say West Virginia which around half of its operating budget from the state government (which wants to zero out its funding) and a significant part from the CPB (which Trump wants to zero out). West Virginia can't have public broadcasting without government funding. It's a poor state so fundraising is naturally a difficult thing to do. So yes, tax money to CPB and state funding is the lifeblood of public broadcasting in rural communities. It's wealthy radio networks that will survive the death of CPB. Coal country won't have PBS or NPR without government funding. To suggest that CPB funding hurts coal country is absolutely laughable.
You don't pay for tax cuts. They are not an expenditure. You pay for social security, medicare, the military, and everything else the government does, plus service on the debt.
In theory. but in practice, since the budget attempts to increase spending on certain line items (eg military spending) and cut others (ie, social program spending, including the subject of this thread) while reducing the deficit... those tax cuts are being paid for by those who would have benefited the social programs being cut.
Sometimes you read things and only laugh... like, what could go wrong, right? After all, "he has worked on major securities law cases and deal litigation, according to his law firm biography." Conway's husband is set to lead Justice Department division http://www.foxnews.com/politics/201...-set-to-lead-justice-department-division.html

Wow. I guess we'll see the NIH rebranded as the Department of Eugenics any day now. What a completely horrific cluster****. Everyday, all day.
We are witnessing an attempt by a newly "elected" American President to effectively destroy a government that has made this country the military, economic, and political leader of the world. It is both tragic and very, very dangerous. We are led by a mentally ill man surrounded and influenced by a small coterie of bizarre extremists.
Trump just put Rick Perry on the National Security Council. From the post above - "A new order issued by Mr. Trump, dated Tuesday and made public on Wednesday, removes Mr. Bannon from the principals committee, restores the chairman of the Joint Chiefs and intelligence director and also adds the energy secretary, C.I.A. director and United Nations ambassador." I couldn't make this up. Mr. trump has gone totally bonkers.
Wouldn't a coal miner be part of the 47% Republicans were complaining about 4 years ago free-riding on the taxes of others? Probably because the Dept of Energy is responsible for the taking care of our nuclear missiles and nuclear power plants. Makes some sense for him to be there.
Not really. The post is typically held by politicians and not smart dudes like Obama had. Perry knows how to run an organization after serving as governor of Texas for a million years. I voted against him every time but I acknowledge he's capable of doing the job. I always found him straight up and less prone to bullshit arguments that he knows aren't true. It was also cool to see him come out in favor of decimalizing small mar1juana possession. As far as Bannon, Adios Mofo.
