Morey's gotta steal that trophy so that Harden can get it in front of the home fans before a playoff game. He can give it back to Adam Silver later.
2 things I'm wondering came in play with this change, 1 copying the nfl honors show, and 2 combating the nba players own version of the awards show.
If the Awards Ceremony has Envelopes and Shaq opens them to read the winner ... expect this Or maybe they'll even go a day without correcting the mistake.
I'm not sure why it would matter. The MVP is supposed to be a regular season award and should have nothing to do with the postseason. It should be announced right when the playoffs start along with all of the other regular season awards, imo. I think they did this because Draymond is in danger of losing his "Biggest Douche" of the year award to Cousins.
Previously, they announce the winners one at a time, over a course of days, so each is discussed separately.
This is akin to brown bagging the butterface after you have done the deed. Too late. Too anti-climatic.
They'll have Kanye give out the awards, and then try to take away the MVP trophy from Harden at Khloe's bequest
I feel like that makes it easier to give it to Westbrook... Before, it was so unlikely to give it to a player would would be done in the first round since they're given the award right after that round. Yeah... there's basically no chance of Harden winning it at this point barring a pretty big collapse by Westbrook. I still believe Harden deserves it, of course, the award should have already been decided since the Rockets no longer have anything to play for, and now the Thunder do while beating up on scrub ass lottery teams.
There's a very real chance Westbrook wins the award, the Rockets sweep the Thunder and the NBA announces the award as we kick off our series against the Spurs. That would be a bad look for the award and the NBA. It still wouldn't look good in the summer, but by then the Rockets lost in the 2nd or 3rd round and it's not as embarrassing.
