Ooooor maybe he called and was negotiating with the Browns and they just couldn't agree in enough time. Or maybe they just didn't feel right about paying Bouye that much money. Or they are saving the cap space because they are thinking Romo might cost more than must of us think. Or.... ok i give up
Eh, Brock still has value, just not $17M. All they have to do is find a starter with that 2nd round pick, and I think they would be fine.
i think rick took advantage of cleveland's 'money ball' offense. bouye was going to go, nothing was going to keep him around with his florida roots. The move was done by Houston for a bigger purpose this season Romo and resigning Dhop . They could easily have kept brock around and cut him next spring without consequences. we shall see.
Yeah, possible - except they offered Bouye $12MM/year so they were prepared - WITH BROCK - to try and sign him earlier in the day. If they were only ~$2MM apart, there's no way they let him walk if they had any inkling they were about to fall into $10MM in cap space, right?
Or they just had a number and wouldn't budge on Bouye just like Elway wouldn't budge off his number for Brock even though it was close.
Yes, all possible... But it would seem, if the Texans were kicking the tires on dealing Osweiler, that they would have done it before yesterday so they could have headed into free agency with their ducks in a row. (I say that not knowing league year rules - if yesterday was the first day they could have traded Osweiler, or had the money work they way it did, I stand corrected.) But I'd still argue the Harvard nerds were the instigators and not Rick Smith, who, you know... handed Brock Osweiler $37MM guaranteed 365 days ago.........
I wonder if Rick Smith conferred with Luhnow and/or Morey on the "Moneyball" aspects. Depodesta is, by all accounts, the 1st "Moneyball" gm in the NFL. What better knowledge base to pick from than the other 2 major sports gm's in this city?
Pure speculation but it could be the other way around. Maybe they were more willing to let go of the 2nd round pick for the Brock deal once knowing they will be getting comp picks next year for Bouye.
People want to talk about all the QBs the Texans have gone through but the Broncos have gone through as many starting QBs in the same amount of time Lynch Simien Brock Manning Tebow Orton Simms Cutler Plummer
Which kind of kills the narrative that you can't do anything without a QB.....buuuuuuuut let's look past that.
