We have a long way to go until the kids sign on to join the team, but nearly all of them came away with a positive impression of the program this weekend. Hopefully that will generate some momentum moving forward. Also, I really like what the staff is doing on social media. I'm not a big Twitter person, but I have been impressed by the quality of the edits and the interaction with the recruits.
2017 signee Reese Leitao was arrested yesterday for selling xanax at his high school. Depth chart at TE is scary.
Had a bottle of 19 stuffed in his underwear and over $1000 in his pocket. I'm smelling a JUCO in his future.
I'll be honest, I thought Herman's use of social media was being overhyped but it's really night and day from what we've seen at Texas. Obviously none of it matters without success on the field but been really impressed with the changes in such a short time.
I'm actually surprised by the under whelming commitment action after junior day. I would of expected 3 to 4 commits. Mack Brown would of had 15 commits by now.
It's better across the board by the only measure we have - recruiting rankings. Plus, there's more depth. There won't be as much of a fall off as there would be at UH with injuries.
Someday Rice will hire a coach who'll stick around and not bolt to the greener pastures of Tulsa, Oklahoma.
UT-Austin bro talking sports smack to Rice? *snort* Hope you like our former Rice coaches - Coach Pierce and Mensa Hermann should help you climb out of the cellar!
He is going to succeed because he is a DETAIL guy that was always my beef with Strong he was a character guy but his details were horrible, constantly out coached. DD
The same things being said about Herman now are what were being said about Strong when he was hired. Mack was too big picture, Charlie focused on the little things, etc.
This is 1000% true. Another similarity to the Strong-to-Herman transition is that there was a lot of talk about guys being out of shape and soft, and Charlie and his staff needing to toughen them up, etc... To date, Herman has seemed to be in more charge of off-the-field details like social media, facilities, etc..., but we'll have to wait and see if that translates. Some will debate this, but Herman has the benefit of a more talented roster, especially at QB and more generally in the sophomore and junior classes.
