Trump FCC appointee gives AT&T-Time Warner merger a free pass. This counter's candidate Trump's claim that a Trump administration would not approve this merger. This also sets up approvals of upcoming mega-mergers. Expect to see Standard oil type companies under Trump administration, we do not need regulations or competitions for businesses.
I bet its a shocker that Trump's FCC chairman appointee was a former lawyer and lobbyist for Verizon... some of that swamp drainage in action.
Justice Dept. Drops a Key Objection to a Texas Voter ID Law By MANNY FERNANDEZ and ERIC LICHTBLAUFEB. 27, 2017 Continue reading the main story Voters in line at a polling site on Super Tuesday in Austin last year. The Republican-led Texas Legislature passed one of the the strictest voter ID laws in the country in 2011. CreditIlana Panich-Linsman for The New York Times HOUSTON — The Justice Department on Monday dropped a crucial objection to Texas’ strict voter-identification law, signaling a significant change from the Obama administration on voting-rights issues. The Republican-led Texas Legislature passed one of the toughest voter ID laws in the country in 2011, requiring voters to show a driver’s license, passport or other government-issued photo ID before casting a ballot. The Obama administration’s Justice Department sued Texas to block the law in 2013 and scored a major victory last year after a federal appeals court ruled that the law needed to be softened because it discriminated against minority voters who lacked the required IDs.
It's like a brigade of morons has taken over the government. DeVos called HBCUs ‘pioneers’ of ‘school choice.’ It didn’t go over well. Many advocates of historically black colleges and universities were apoplectic after Education Secretary Betsy DeVos called the group of schools forged at the height of racial segregation “pioneers” of “school choice.” DeVos issued a statement Monday evening after a meeting with HBCU leaders, praising their schools for identifying “a system that wasn’t working” and taking it “upon themselves to provide the solution” from the outset of their founding. DeVos said in the statement that HBCUs “started from the fact that there were too many students in America who did not have equal access to education.”
I don't know what is worse... that the person who was named by Trump to head up education in our country didn't know the full history of historically black colleges and universities, or that she did know, but purposely inaccurately described that history in order to support her own goal of expanding school vouchers. Either way, shameful.
It's the old George W Bush problem, too incompetent to know what she's doing or just straight deceitful. In the end it doesn't matter which because they're both very damaging.
Trump's choice to head up education in our country makes a tone-deaf, outright nuts statement in an effort to promote school vouchers. DeVos Slammed as ‘Totally Nuts’ for Calling HBCUs ‘Pioneers of School Choice’ http://www.nbcnews.com/news/nbcblk/...-calling-hbcus-pioneers-school-choice-n726856
I sincerely hope this was a misquote or a misstatement... Ben Carson just referred to slaves as 'immigrants' http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/.../ben-carson-calls-slaves-immigrants/98816752/
Ah, yes, the dream of prosperity in a land of people who ripped you from your home, forced you to live as an animal or worse, bought and sold you as property, raped your women, and wielded merciless beatings and the threat of death as motivation to work. Brings a tear to my eye.
Yes, it sounds horrific at face value... I am hoping that Dr. Carson was misquoted, or misspoke, and will clarify it as soon as possible. I was thinking DeVos was the worst of Trump's remaining appointees (now that Flynn is gone) but this quote raises serious concerns about Carson.
That's actually not very cool. I think you mean for him to witness what those times were like as opposed to anyone experiencing it. He could just read a really good and disturbing book about that period.
No kidding (sarcasm noted). Carson may be a good surgeon (I hope so), but otherwise, he's an idiot. Making this statement is an insult to Black Americans across the country. That Carson is Black himself only puts irony into a disturbing revelation.
Apparently Dr. Carson's speech was videotaped so it won't be a factor of a misquote. Hopefully Dr. Carson will provide an explanation and apology.
