What are you talking about? Everybody knew his fear of flying in college, ESPN even had a feature on him. Scouts asked him about it on his draft interview, you can check out his replies by searching the archive on draftexpress he swore up and down it wouldnt be a problem. Point is he lied about it, like somebody fibbing about the accomplishments on his resume.

That speaks a lot about Royce White's character IMHO. Somebody like that doesnt deserve to be in the NBA.

I think you misunderstood a few things. It's not about Royce ability to choose ,elect,or option of what he can do, he simply CAN'T, even if he wanted to cope. When a person diagnosed with OCD&GAD it means that person can't function normally whether he was working as a cashier or Pro-athletic.
When that person admit having these issues and is open about it , it means he is not an Anosognosiatic , it's one level better than having bipolar case, with proper treatment that person may over comes (some) obstacles but would not be completely healthy because there is no cure for it yet
DM could had consulted psychiatrist to determine Royce situation before selecting him.

Agreed. The public focuses too much on this superficial effect -- afraid to fly -- when his mental health issues have many more implications on how he interacts with the world. My memory is vague now, but I kinda think Morey did have some specialist consulting on it. Doesn't matter. Morey took a gamble on a promising prospect with a health concern, and it didn't work out (like most of his mid-teen picks). The Rockets recovered. White still has to deal with it.

So basically you're saying when a person is diagnosed with OCD and GAD he should be locked up for life because he can't ever be a functioning member of society, is that right?

Honestly I'm not a psychiatrist but your line of thinking regarding Royce White's case is really confusing, you go from exonerating Royce White of all wrong doing (ie he was honest, it was all DM's fault for taking a chance on him) to totally degrading him as a human being (people with OCD&GAD will never be a functioning human being no matter what they say or do). This article showed Royce White putting up a good performance in the Canadian League, and prior to that he was a good player in college so I totally disagree with you, White can indeed be a functioning member of society when he wants to be.

His problem has nothing to do with mental illness, it has to do with a rotten character. Does his OCD+GAD compel him to lie about his plane fears? Does the OCD+GAD compel him from not working on his game? Not attending practices? Trying to sue the Rockets and the NBA for not providing "safe working environment" and basically just raising a fuss so he can walk away with his paycheck without having to work for it? The Rockets made a mistake, but the mistake was ignoring the red flags in White's character (dude had a case for stealing computers and other equipment in college) and not due to his mental condition. We dont even know how bad his condition really is, he has a fear of flying but other than that everything is just speculation.

I understand mental illness is real. But at what point do you start blaming mental health for character issues? A lot of posters hate Royce White. Can they choose not to hate? Or is it their mental problem?

Tell Kelvin Cato: we want our money back.

    And Royce White, too.

I will take a wild guess due to a limited rotational training (2months) in psychiatry. If an anxiety episode lasted more than 12 hours =anxiety disorder,if not treated then it becomes General Anxiety Disorder ,if not treated with antipsychotic it will elevate to a combination of disorders (like in this case), if not treated and lasted over 5-10 days then it may damage the amyglada in the brain (similar to shell shock in veterans)

I'm not sure but there are around 2 out of 10 of mental patients who are (separated due to GAD) when there is (self-others )potential risk of harm. Before 1950s they would tied and locked

His biggest fear was to play serious NBA pro ball. Chickened out.

A thing I am puzzled about is how easy it was for him to get into altercations and fights on the court.

Les also got Asik and Lin heavy contracts. To latter due to breaking into the Chinese and Taiwanese markets again.
