I wonder if this is going to be a similar draw of fans like the rest of the SW films would attract? It's basically a side story around the creator of the death star is what I gather but not any familiar characters. Do you expect a huge fan turnout for this one in the early going?
Lower fan turnout unless it turns out to be great and word of mouth will push it to be around the same as the seventh movie. With that said, it looks better than expected.
I hope the movie meets the financial expectations for the studio. This movie (aside from the Han Solo movie already approved) could dictate the future of other Star Wars stand alone movies. There is a lot more freedom in these and we could see some creative stuff. From the previews, I am totally amped for this movie. Love the visuals.
Can't for the life of me remember where I read it...but saw something that said from what they could tell, they assumed it would fall well short of The Force Awakens, but still finish as potentially the 2nd biggest December opening ever.
Those are very big words. Coming from KS I tend to believe it, he's a huge fan. This has me even more pumped up.
Those who were at the premiere loved it. Saw multiple comparisons to Ep 4 & 5. Gritty. I was excited before, but wow.
Predict the box office. Based on my disinterest I am going to low ball it at 800 billion worldwide. The fact that the budget is higher than Force Awakens is really strange. What genius decided that?
I think it will if the early reports on how good it is are accurate. Not only that, what competition does it really have? Passengers? Assassin's Creed? That's about it, and none of them are out the same weekend. I think Force Awakens only got people more interested in the new Star Wars movies so until there is a bad one, the numbers will just get better and better. I think there's no way it does less than 1.5 billion worldwide.
The budget is really irrelevant to the net for this first attempt, it's all about long term revenues for this series so it had to be good and as high quality as the wars. They spent wisely no matter the net so long as they get a long term buzz.
It won't do TFA money, given that last year's movie was our first "Star Wars" in awhile, but it'll clean up. Having a couple of Asian actors on the Rogue One team will mean gangbusters money in China.
