He was a cancer because he refused to play the concept that made us the best, him playing PnR with Harden almost exclusively. He was a cancer in Orlando, in LA, and in Houston. Idiots can't see that. DD
LOL - pot meet kettle. The thread was bumped, people argued he was not a problem, they were wrong - case closed. DD
Dwight gonna have to adapt or die(metaphorically) He refused to play PnR here and Capela doesn't have the pride/ego to refuse the low hanging fruit that the PnR offers. You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink. Capela was thirsty and Dwight was still drinking out of his souvenir Disney World cup from his Orlando days.
If Howard goes off that would play right into our gameplan. Howand putting up #s is what makes him obsolete in this league as it stagnates everyone else. His best option as a player is to play hard defense and rebound with PnR. Once he starts putting himself in the low post with multiple touches that team is done.
Say what you will about Howard but he is still far stronger then Capela. I can't see Capela stopping Howard from backing him down, on top of the fact that Rino is not going to be stopping Millsap. When Mill and How get into the paint it's going to over whelm the almost zero D from Rino and the still green Capela. I think starting Nene would be the right move to draw Howard out of the paint. When he sits then bring in Capela.
Pretty much. I don't hate Dwight, but the offense is SO much better without any forced post ups. Nene will occasionally post up but it never feels forced like it did with Dwight
Howard is not a bad player by any means, but you have to WANT to play in a system for it to work. He has always complained about his touches in the paint and there is a reason for that.
Dwight Howard hasn't had a losing season since his rookie year. He's played for 3 different franchises over the past 10 years, and those teams made the playoffs every single year Dwight played for them. The best season Orlando has had in the past 20 years was with Dwight Howard. The best season Houston has had in the past 20 years was with Dwight Howard. You have a very strange definition of "cancer".
Capela is no Dwight, let's not kid ourselves. But he played okay tonight other than foul trouble, but those refs had it in for us with calling twice as many fouls as they did on ATL. But also, MDA should play Capela until he fouls out most games so he should be getting at least 30 minutes if he doesn't foul out. MDA needs to play him starter minutes so he can learn not to foul out, and if he does, then just give the rest of the minutes to Nene, or Harrell, or DMo if he comes back.
Has anyone stopped for a second to think that both sides have some merit to their claims here? Dwight was wrong for wanting to be more involved, but he was also right in that this organization is just not 100% about winning. We weren't going to be successful no matter if we sided with James or Dwight, but in giving Harden 30M a year and putting d'Antoni in the coaching seat, it was as big a statement that you could make that we were going to settle with having a flashy yet mediocre product. We certainly did our best to tell Dwight to scram. And now we're just another incarnation of the 80's Nuggets. Not a flying **** given to defense. But stomp the ground for a Harden MVP! Yeah!
This thread is pretty hilarious to read right now, with Dwight on to a fresh start in ATL. I understand that he and the Rockets needed to turn the page on their chapter together, but to say Clint made/makes Dwight obsolete is absolutely false. Even tonight, despite his foul trouble, it's easy to see who the better player is on both sides of the court. Clint was the recipient of some great passes by James and EG, but he was out-muscled by Dwight the entire time he was on the floor with him. Be honest: When there is a loose ball or a missed shot, do you have more confidence in Dwight or Clint to secure the rebound? Do you have more confidence in Dwight or Clint to defend the basket or an opposing forward/center? Both of these should be rhetorical questions. We don't miss Dwight's offense and his inability to be dominant from a standing post-play, however, you could go to Dwight for a bucket, and he DOES have a variety of moves in the post. It comes down to being a threat on offense and defense. Nobody is scared or concerned with Clint Capela. Players think twice about going up for a layup against Dwight, both because of a blocked shot and his physicality. On defense, nobody is concerned with Clint Capela taking care of rebounds. That's why you have guards coming down to rebound and being fairly successful. Clint is not strong enough, nor does he have the skill set and, well, what seems to be the mental capacity, to dominate the rebounding game. He is two steps too slow and we're suffering because of it. I'm not placing all of the blame on him, but because this thread was a comparison and knee-jerk to Dwight's departure, there is a blatant difference in overall talent between Dwight and Clint. I don't miss the drama of last year and all of the crap I heard in the locker room, but I do miss Dwight's tenacity, defense and unexpected games where he was a force to be reckoned with. (Remember that Clippers game? He had 40+ points and 20 + rebounds) We need help in the front court. It's early enough to improve this team. if you wait too long, where players do not have time to adjust, it's pointless. DMo isn't going to fix our rebounding and defense, as his career numbers show. He'd give us a different look on offense, but that's assuming he is completely healthy and hasn't missed a step. The Rockets need multiple front court pieces to put this MDA offense together. The chemistry is fine, and Morey chose many of the right guys (EG will surprise and Ry will start returning to form), but that center spot is crucial.Remember Amare? He clicked well with Nash because he could use the PnR to shoot jumpers and finish strong around the rim. In turn, the rest of the guys could space the court and knock down threes. Without Amare, Joe Johnson, Marion, Diaw, Nashty, Raja (the list goes on and on) wouldn't make all those shots. Amare was a THREAT on the floor. Right now, we've got a legit backcourt and a front court that's about as scary as a pack of My Little Ponies.
