White Sox can go ahead and beat DET for a change, smh.... they've lost, at least, 4 consecutive. Good the Stros have won a couple.
i calculated detroit being 8 games over .500 by now, my way advanced analytics didn't account for upton getting caliente. 2 games in a row he delivers the crushing blow. It's on me. why does the radio broadcast bother doing post game shows if the host does want to do them? f' those guys. Hoping for a peacock miracle today. don't know how, baseball gods be with us or this could get uglay.
The Astros all of a sudden have six players with batting averages above .250 (Gattis is at .247). Gotta give the organization credit for getting things turned around especially with Bregman and Guriel.
He's not really a viable candidate to be a future starter. The only difference between him and Peacock is that Peacock actually has MLB experience.
I'm not so concerned about beyond this season. One guy is the PCL pitcher of the year and the other is Brad Peacock.
He looked terrible in his relief outing the other day and I'm not sure they would start him only a few days after a relief outing. Definitely would rather see a young guy we haven't seen before. Need to have a better idea of what we have going into next season (winning games is #1 priority, but Brad Peacock). Of course, Luhnow could also be afraid of them struggling and perhaps lowering their trade value in the offseason.
I'm not sure it matters much whether Rodgers starts or not. I don't think Astros envision Peacock making it to the 3rd time through the batting order and will need people to pitch between Peacock and the high-leverage pitchers. I suspect Rodgers will get the call if Peacock fails early and pitch 3-4 innings if he's either pitching really well or really bad.
Gotta have a very short leash with Peacock, much like the Indians yesterday. If he's gone 2 innings and is giving up 2+ runs, just get him out of there because it's not going to get better as he goes through their lineup a 2nd time...We have to try to limit them to 4 or less runs to win the game.
But you pretty much just said it yourself... there isn't really a lot of honor in being the AAA PCL pitcher of the year. That pretty just cements that you were never good enough to be considered for the big leagues.
Is going with a 4 man rotation out of the question? it hasn't been done since the 70s but it's only to close out the season.
