I dont know if some of yall watched the women's 800 m race from a few days ago, but it was really disturbing to see how the top three "female's" won by a wide margin. My mom was confused at why men were competing with women. There is a medical reason that many suspect is the reason for her hyperandrogenism known as Androgen insensitivity syndrome. These patients are genotypical male (XY), but their receptors fail to respond to the androgen...Phenotypically, their external genitalia is female...they however lack all normal female internal genitalia. The question is, should these individuals be allowed to compete in a female race?
I think this has been known to the IOC for like 7 years. And for the last 7 years, they've been doing a collective ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.
I think they are going to change the rules, talking about making these "female" athletes suppress their testosterone levels(by medication?).
If you were BORN with a vagina, you're a female..... Just that simple, people keep trying to near this excuse and that excuse and it doesn't make any sense... Everyone is different and unique, but if you're born a female than you're a female. T_Man
Honestly who cares, it's just amateur sports. She's been trough enough with her "condition" and found an outlet she is good at. Let her/them be and move on.
Having a vagina doesnt always mean you are a female. That is a medical fact. Spoiler quick summary...During embryological development, the default pathway for all embryos is female. The Y chromosome, provides for the genes necessary to alter this pathway. The Y chromosome allows for the formation of testes that are essential in the formation of testosterone that is converted into its active form: DHT. These changes allow for the proper male external features. The internal structures are also by default, setup for the development of female organs. A factor known as Anti Mullerian factor INHIBITS the formation of female structures, and allows for the development of normal MALE internal structures (ie. testes, epididymis, prostate etc.) Defects in these pathways cause the body to follow the default system. In Semenya's case, "she/he" most likely has NO uterus, ovaries or other female internal sex organs. Rather "she/he" most likely has unremoved testes (if NOT removed, there is a high likelyhood that it becomes cancerous) that are producing testosterone. This is just a brief overview of the process, and others much more well versed in embryology may have a better explanation.
by the same logic would you say if you are born with testicles, you're a male? Because these women have testicles.
Yeah, I pretty much agree with this. There's no doubt in my mind that this is an unfair advantage against other females. At the same time I'd have no interest in punishing her for it. Just one of those imperfections in the world that is better to just let go.
If they have androgen insensitivity syndrome then they are at no benefit compared to other females because the testosterone has no effect
She is a hermaphrodite, identify her self as a women so that should be it. Btw extreme sport can effect female hormonal production balance too without taking supplements
they did that, she lost, then they had to change the rule back and now she is winning again. Because she has three times the amount of testosterone. You triple anyone's testosterone and they will be stronger and have bigger muscles.
She should compete in Men's division then imo The whole reason we have sex division is because men extreme have physical advantages that makes it physically impossible for any women to compete. tripling an average woman's testosterone imo is a extreme physical advantage.
Amateur sports really? They are professional athletes that have to deal with a major issue. Isn't it strange that the "3 women" who had the highest endogenous levels of testosterone ends up winning the medal?
