Good luck with that. He could not even function as a good role player in critical moments in the playoffs.
100% agree with this...if he wants to be anything more than a 3rd option, he needs to work on his handle and develop a true go to move...Back in his UNC days, I even remember one scout saying that Barnes' shot looks nice, except it doesn't go in LOL
This move reminds me of when the Rockets tried to make Ariza a star a few years ago. Man we were desperate!
cept they're paying him over 20m per. rockets didnt even give ariza half of that! cuban keeps doing the league a solid by screwing his own team
We gave Ariza the MLE, which was about 6 mil/yr. We paid him like a role player and he tried to do too much. We easily flipped him for Courtney Lee in the next offseason. I still think the Mavs will be able to flip Barnes if he busts next year, but there's no denying they are paying a premium for his services while we paid a reasonable salary for Ariza's.
I really think as hard as it is for me to say that parsons is a good amount of a better go to player than this guy
If healthy. Parsons was clearly something special in Houston when healthy. Best fast break finisher on a team when there was an advantage. Could shoot and also create for others off the dribble. Most times he was the only willing cutter to the rim (pick and pop). But that was also do to his size. The other guys were to small to finish in the paint so they couldn't really cut to the rim. He's got some string of injuries so we'll see.
Honestly, Barnes will probably average something like 17/6/3 with middling shooting efficiency and he'll at least look like's more or less worth his contract. But he's really such an average player. Poor man's Rudy Gay.
Too many great forwards/big men in the West for this to happen. Only way it could happen is if he put up KD type numbers and that's never going to happen. Barnes has had plenty of chances to show elite level skill and he hasn't delivered.
