Backup point guard? Looks like we're not upgrading the position. Nothing against Bev, but he's not a point guard. Frustrating.
This has been so clearly stated multiple times since the season ended. I tried to tell you months ago to let go of this "true point guard" fantasy.
In Mike Ds offense the PG has the ball all the time, no way that will work with harden, so harden will play PG on offense I'm sure.
Harden kills true point guards. He's our one and only true point guard. Given said that, we could still be looking to upgrade Bev though. A slightly better playmaker and defender should do.
What can I say; I believe in taking care of the ball and defending opposing pgs at a high level. Neither Harden or Gordon can defend the 1 and they turn the ball over too much!
Possibility for a trade, as Morey said... but there just going to take what's available. I don't think a PG upgrade is any more likely than any other positional upgrade. Also, why would Morey openly say were looking to replace Beverley? Not sure about this either. The Rockets again and again keep being linked to PG acquisitions. We tried to get Conley. We signed Lawson. I don't think our FO is as married to a Harden-dominated back-court as most of Clutchfans seems to think they are. It's more PG isn't the most of pressing of needs with Harden, but if someone becomes available it's not that unlikely. I wouldn't be shocked if Rubio ends up being our starting PG going into the season.
Water is wet. PG is the obvious hole on this team. It's a good bet this situation will be resolved (or an attempt will be made) before the start of the season.
The press conference made it clear we are not looking at a starting PG, they have faith in Beverley, Gordon & Harden but wouldn't mind another guard.
My thoughts too. I really just wish Beverley was better - he would be the perfect complement to Harden. Except for the fact that he is probably one of the worst starting PG's in the NBA. His defense really seemed to dip last year, and his shooting left a lot to be desired. If he can improve his outside shooting and get back to being a defensive matchup headache, I think he should be fine at PG. Especially considering Gordon will play a lot anyway, likely at times without a true PG on the floor.
Happy Birthday Beverley!! Harden is the starting "point guard" on the MDA offense. Early 90's Bulls had BJ Armstrong and John Paxson at the point to go with Jordan dominating the ball. Beverley is putting up similar points, actually much better rebounds/steals and blocks than both BJ and Paxson. Remember the early 90's had the shorter 3 point line which inflated the 3point numbers. We need to find the other piece to the duo.
Expected. I think best case scenario for everyone was GPIII playing great and earning that spot, but damn, that injury... (And as I have been saying for years, if the Rockets have any interest at all in a guy like Rubio, it would be as a backup to Beverley. He would be our 7th or 8th man because that's his ceiling on a winning team.)
