It makes sense for all sides for DMo to sign the QO and get back in there next summer.

Daryl Morey will not officially sign DMo until he has to. They may already have an agreement or at least the basis of one in place. As long as DMo is unsigned the Rockets have 10 million in cap room. Unless you think DMo will sign for less than 5.7 million (which I don't), the Roockets lose cap space the second he signs the contract.

Expect Daryl to finish most of, if not all of his summer overhauling of the roster before DMo actually signs. I don't expect Nene to officially sign until the Rockets exceed the cap so they can use the Room Exception on him. As Bima pointed out in a tweet, Nene's salary is just slightly under the amount of the Room Exception.

We're like 12 hours into the period where offer sheets can be signed....

I don't think we did at all. I think they told him they really wanted him on the team and that he would have a role here. Probably asked him to not immediately run out and sign an offer sheet so they could do some maneuvering. Ultimately how could they be wronging him by letting him go out and see what his market value is?

We let Dwight go and replaced him with Nene. DMo didn't expect (or even want) a bunch of Dwight minutes did he?

So, if he is upset about Anderson, then not much you can do to fret over a fragile psyche like that. Doesn't sound like DMo to me.

In what way did we do him dirty? In what way did we give him a wrong impression?

I'm guessing Daryl Morey and MDA we're up front and honest with him and I'm guessing nothing has changed. DMo will be resigned and play a very large role for the Rockets.

So in the span of an additional 2 or 3 days to continue to gather comps it seems like there is very little variation. The decline in averages is slight, but not dramatic just yet if you DO NOT include the right chasers who would skew the numbers here.

The more I see here now, the more D-Mo would be fortunate to get the 3 year 30 Million dollar deal I thought he was in line to receive a few days ago.

Also the Rockets picking up Nene, and committing to Beasley probably hurts D-Mo in negotiations as well because teams will probably assume now that the team wont need to go with a crazy offer to get the Rockets to NOT match an offer.

At this point I won't be surprised either way (to match or to not match). I hope they do match or he accepts an offer from them though. Even though the path RIGHT NOW in July to guaranteed minutes isn't there, there isn't a doubt in my mind that the opportunity and need will be there throughout the season. Maybe he won't start at the beginning of the season, but with this roster, there will be injuries and he will be needed during the season.

Well they haven't NOT signed him or matched an offer yet so why would we think they ALREADY did him dirty?

Morey has said a million times that July is NOT the time to worry about roster balance year after year. He keeps on saying it because every year the media and the fans question his roster building in July because of the lack of balance and it always works out in the first couple weeks of the season.

The Rockets currently have the most fragile injury prone roster that I can think of in the league other than maybe whatever the Knicks throw out on opening day. Morey is smart enough to know he gambled on Gordon/Anderson and likely Nene's health, and you can never have enough depth at the PF/C position especially.

If anything, I'm sure they'd prefer to keep D-Mo over an unproven Harrell, or the checkered past Beasley who never saw a jump shot he didn't love. If they resign him, I except he will start above them both in the rotation, and both players would likely be sought after if they rode the bench... which they wont because again... injuries WILL HAPPEN on this roster.

The explanation is that it's just a model and it doesn't really mean anything. If you looked at the model last year it probably wouldn't have suggested that Terrence Jones would be the worst PF in the NBA last year but that's what happened.

I like the idea of this a lot, but unfortunately I think it's extrapolating too much off of too little data. Motiejunas has developed enough that he needs to get a full season under his belt to make a true projection. 547 minutes last year isn't enough, and definitely threw off his progression.

(Jones was also constantly plagued by setbacks; but I was never a fan of his game and don't see much upside.)
