There's no doubt that he's serviceable and no doubt that it's a bargain contract in this market. I imagine some were hoping we'd use the rest of the cap space (and clear a little more) to get another impact UFA signed (though pickings are slim) or make a play for an impact RFA. But we needed another rotational, defensive-minded center to pair with Clint as he continues to develop, and we probably couldn't have done better than Nene given the contract and available alternatives.

Watching clips now of him from last year, struck by:

    * pretty great court vision for passing from the wing and the high post. That will be fun.
    * still decent lateral movement but pretty slow north-south down the court.
    * looked a tad chubby last season (?)

Kind of shocked if this is the best deal he can get. Hoping it means he really wants to be here and that he's turning down other offers.

This had no effect on our existing cap space because we used an exception to sign him.

Ok, due to be in the old folks home, often injured, but a good backup big.

That is movable....... especially with the cap increasing again next year. You would also be moving Brewer's contract in any deal for Chandler.

Honestly I don't know how much he has left. He was still a quality defender when I say him play last year, but he is approaching the age where it becomes an issue. Off setting the risk of his age is the fact that there are very few legitimate post anchors.... and the ones that do exist are seldom available or command max contracts.

Already sounds better or just as good as what Dwight gave us for the entire season as a whole. I think Nene wants to grab a ton of rebounds and get a bigger contract next season. I like this move...especially if we manage to keep DMO also

People complaining about this move are the same people who just like to complain about anything and everything the Rockets do these days. Nene will be a high quality backup C who plays good defense, can pass, is great in the locker room, and is cheap.

I think this is by far the best value signing we have had. Nene still has something left in the tank and with Capela at C he doesn't have to play alot. The money is peanuts. Now, bring back DMo and get a good backup PG and we are good to start the season.

I kind of hope not. He just really underwhelmed with the minutes he got last season. And I think the Rockets need a veterans who's ready now, especially if Beverley goes down with another injury.

Stephenson actually played really well in Memphis last season, but he still terrifies me. And I think the Rockets need someone who can safely defend the PG position and run the offense. I just don't see Stephenson as that guy.

That could still very well be possible with the logjam of big men in Philly. But I just don't see it happening. If they really want to deal Noel or Okafor, they can do a hell of a lot better than anything Houston has to offer.
